I had my first ever opportunity of hunting CW relics this past weekend with the Omega 8000 and was ecstatic over finding what most relic hunters would probably consider common. After driving from Alabama, I had permission to hunt an area near the 1863 Mountain Run skirmish in Culpeper, VA, and found a dropped bullet after about a hour of late afternoon hunting. Coming back the next afternoon, six more bullets were found within about a 100' radius, all appearing to have been fired. Most were around 3-4"; I was using the 11" concentric coil, sensitivity around 80. In the all-metal mode the Omega sounded a little chatty so I ended up turning on minimal discrimination and the Omega leveled out nicely and hit hard on most of the bullets. I'm not an expert on civil war projectiles and would welcome any input from you experts out there. Six of the bullets appear to have three rings, one has what appears to be two bands. Anyway, I had started to take a Fisher 1266 but had opted for the Omega due to the light weight and it turned out to be a good decision. May not ever get to hunt in Virginia again but it was well worth the trip just from the perspective of being about to uncover something that hadn't seen the light of day for almost 150 years.
