First day with F4

It has been a learning experience and I have some questions.
1- The Gnd Bal procedure is the first thing that should be done. Correct?
2- After setting the Gnd Bal can you readjust the sensitivity and threshold without losing the Gnd Bal setting?
3- The Auto Tune (All Metal)
a- All Metal- This mode is a ground -balanced all-metal motion search mode> What the hell does that mean? Does it mean you don't ground balance?
b- Is Auto Tune and All Metal different? How?
c- Auto Tune mode must be ground balanced.

My thoughts 1- Gnd bal first 2- All Metal does not require gnd bal as it done automatically 3- Auto Tune has to be gnd bal.

Help where am I going wrong?

Actually I found stuff and had fun so I must be close.

Yeah...I hear you on those questions Lance...I've been swinging F70 coil for a year and a half and still cant figure out settings! Somebody should be along presently to help, until then, just turn on and goI

If I remember you must ground balance in auto tune all metal,then it should be good to go also in disc. mode,havnt ran my f4 in over a year but wont get rid of it.Dont take this wrong but you realy should read the manual very well,heck I used tp carry it whith me and took notes until I started to get the hang of it!! the f4 is a good machine if set up properly,I ran mostly disc. mode,jumped to all metals once in awhile,also ground balance often. hh rick in mi.

I have the F4 and love it, easy to use and its a very good detector for the money!! What I have found out is some times you will get a reading of around 80 but its not a 25 cents but a bottle cap. So when you swing it and get that reading swing real fast over it several times and if it does not make that same sound its a bottle cap. Some times when you swing and at the end of your swing the coil rises up it will give a false signal, so keep the coil flat at all times of your swing. If you can afford it purchase a garret pen pointer, it will save you hundreds of hours digging. Its the best for the money that I have found and will save you a lot of frustrations looking for that coin. In my first year using my F4 I have over 3500 coins and lots of rings etc. Read that Manuel over. Also, go to youtube and type in Fisher F4 and get good information on how others use their detector. Heck there is a guy in Australia that has found over a million dollars in gold nuggets using this machine. What part of the country do you live in? Team up with some one that likes to go digging and it makes it a lot more fun.

I have read the manual, but when they say things like "the ALL METAL mode is a ground-balance all-metal motion search mode. What does that mean?
Then they go on to say that the AUTO TUNE mode must be ground -balanced.
Very confusing.

Still having fun, but I would like to just use it to its full capability...................

It is a must to ground balance, do this right off. It is my understanding if you were looking for a gold nugget you would use the all metal mode. It will make a sound when you go over the nugget or any other item and then you can dig. When you find a coin or other object, switch to all metal and try it to hear the sound it makes. I have not used the all metal mode other than to GB. Go to www.youtube.com type in fisher f4 and you will find all kinds of good information. Best yet type in air test for the F4 and try it several times. It is a very good way to learn the machine. It takes some time to learn and get to know your machine. Of all the detectors to learn on the F4 is the best! What part of the country do you live in. I am in San Diego Ca. where the its never below 70 which makes it nice to hunt all year.
