I noticed that some dirt had besen moved around at a local school and decided to check it out. Here's what 2.5 hours worth of hunting turned up before I ran out of light. These are some butt ugly coins, but, I had fun and started the year off with some silver.
I was using a Minelab 8" coil, gain set to 7, fast recovery on, manual sens set to 20 and iron mask at -12, digital mode on audio set to 1.Up until now, I've always run in normal mode. I think audio 1 will be my mode of preference. There was a ground mounted transformer approx. 30 feet from where I was hunting. I would have to use noise cancel when I was right next to it. After about 45 minutes I dropped the gain to 5 and turned fast recovery off just to see how the Explorer II would act. The signals were sharper and crisper with this set up. At this point in time, I really don't believe there is another machine that comes close to the performance of the Explorer.
