First finds with xterra and 2 questions

I went out with my new (to me) 705 yesterday and today. I got a silver 925 ring yesterday, then today to the oldest High School in town hit some kind of metal plate with the Eiffel Tower on it, then went to the other side of the school and found within 10 ft of each other a 1941 and 56 wheatie and two keys. And lots of 20 and 22 signals which passed on most.

The TID's are going to take a bit to get used to after my MXT.
Now the questions, I kept getting what I guess are called wrap around signals 46 or 48 to -8. Is this falsing or a true good tone?

Also, I am a bit confused I read some say hunt in AM. I have also read that I should hunt in a hunt pattern with no disc. Which is best?
Thanks,
Lee

Nice.

As for the 46 - 48 signal ..... be very careful, it could be a good find, but it can also be iron.

I did find a 24K gold ring that came in at 46 - 48 last year with the X-Terra 705 (see pics below).

Thanks for the reply. NICE RING!!

I was getting either a 46 or 48's along with a -8. I wasn't sure if it was a good signal or if i was running sensitivity to high (21)

An annoying frequent 48 -8 or -6 is the presence of iron. Sites like that are the only places that I run any DISC, and then I tend to only DISC out either -8 & 48, or everything up to 0 & 48, whichever the situation calls for. You can try lowering your SENS a bit, but a DD coil would be a benefit as well with GB numbers like that. If high iron is a common problem where you're hunting, then I would suggest that you say away from the HF DD, as it is less honest on high conductors than the MF, and as such will eventually result in you ignoring good targets out of frustration.

Everywhere else I hunt in AM. The reason is, that if you hunt in DISC mode, you have to pay more attention to the null, and because even with nothing disc'd out there is still some minor filtering in the DISC circuit. Whether true or not, I feel that I get more out of my 705 by not filtering the signal at all (AM).

Congrat's on the silver ring and wheat's.

Most times the 46 to 48 to -8 is going to be a rusty bottle cap or a big rusty nail but not always. Since your new to the Xterra, the best thing to do when you run in to something like that is to dig it up and see what it is. That's the best way to learn what the MDer is telling you.

Also since your new to the X, I would run in Pattern 1 for awhile. Then when you get a lil more use to the X you can try running in AM and then decide which way you like to run best. I've been using the Xterra for going on 7 years now and I run in Pattern 1, 75% of the time.

Good Luck and have fun

Thanks for the advice.

I am running the stock coil that came with the detector

I too am fairly new with the 705 but have learned by trial and error a little about signals.
48 has always turned out to be iron.
42-46 almost always a quarter but brass will also ring up in these numbers. air test on a quarter will be a 42.
I found a 1876 seated dime that rang up a crisp clean 42 @ 4" Thought it was a quarter , I found a 62 rosie yesterday @ about 3" it rang a solid 38.
don't know why the seated rang up higher than than the rosie did maybe the way it way lying in the ground?
clad dimes always hit a 38-40 but a copper penny will also ring in @ 36-38.
Nickles will hit around 12.
Don't know about silver quarters never found one yet with the 705.
Negative numbers have always been junk for me .
I air tested my girl friends solitair ring made from 14k gold with some other material for the diamond setting the signal jumped all over even in the negative zone.
No expert here but this is my experience.
Good luck and HH.
