First gold 2018

Kossie

Hello,

It's been a while since my last post. I've spend more time fishing for pike in 2017 than metal detecting. The summer season yielded less euro-coins than previous years. I've found no silver on the beach in 2017 and I had only five water-hunts wading in fresh water.

On the 3rd of January we had our first storm of 2018 on the Dutch coast. Tide and wind coincided perfectly and caused some beach erosion. Yesterday evening (Sunday 7th) I had a short hunt of 2 hours. This was the third hunt since the storm and I bagged my first gold ring of 2018 and the first for my CTX 3030 which I purchased last spring. The ring is slim, weighs 1,96 g, is bi-color white and yellow, has no hallmarks but tested 14 k with the acid test. It also has four small stones (the setting is open on the back site). I haven't tested the stones yet.

I finally am getting to know the CTX better. My brother hit the same stretch of beach on the 5th and missed this ring with his Explorer.

Other loot: 1 kg (> 2lbs) of lead net weights (>40 weights in 2 hours!). A .50 calibre bullit The weights, bullits and other miscellaneous copper scrap is coming from beach replenishment.sand. This stretch of beach was replenished 2 years ago. The lead weights marks the spot were the dredge pipe ended and the heavier stuff settled first. Lots of ice-age cobbles too. Spot like this sometimes yield 17th and 18 th century coins and other stuff from ships.

Happy new year!

Regards Kossie

Thanks for the reactions.
I've found a bucket full of lead fishing net-weights, a couple of euro-coins and three silvers.
A silver pendant with a big amethyst, a silver ring and a silver pin. The pendant is 925, the ring is 835 and the pin is 800.

Next storm is due for Thursday and I'm not finished with detecting after the last one, yet. No spring-tide on Thursday but the beach started to sand in again so I'm looking forward to it.

Kossie,

I hunt lake beaches in Germany and Switzerland. The grassy ones yield well in Germany, while the Swiss ones (in the Ticino) are great for lots on .50 Franc coins (and smaller than a U.S. 10 cent piece), and older silver ones in the water. I love hunting in Europe as an American because the coins really add up to some money, unlike in the states with the largest common coin being .25
