First Gold! (I think...)

Hi Fellow Deusers,

Not getting as much hunting in as I would like with the new XP Deus. However the finds are coming in at a good rate none the less. I hit a local farmers market ground today for half an hour and after trying Gary's Hot program (using full tones) I switched to his Cold program and nailed my first gold ring!

Here are the programs for anyone who hasn't seen them:

Use factory defaults if feature is not mentioned

Gary's Cold Program (Low Iron or Fast Survey)

Load up the default Gold Maxx Power settings....Change
Discrimination.....6
Tones...2 tones >Tone 1 (202) Tone 2 (702)
Frequency....11.7
You can see how close to the factory pre sets these settings are, however small tweaks can make a big difference.

Gary's Hot Program (small targets in heavy iron)
Load up the Deus fast program....Change
Discrimination.....between 0 and 5, if you have problems identifying difference between low tones use disc 5 and dig every repeatable tone
Tones....Full tones
Iron Vol.....0
Audio response....3-4
Here we have some big changes, at first don't be afraid to use a discrimination of 3 - 5 until you get used to the audio feedback.

Now the question is what did I dig up?

Please have a look at the stamp and see if it means anything to you.

I found a couple of retail jewellery brands using the initials SC Sarah Chloe from Niemen Marcus and Sarah Coventry from Charles Stuart. Any help IDing this ring would be appreciated.

Now back to searching by headlamp while the kids and wife sleep!

Thats a very nice find,i only use the 'Cold Settings' but with one minor change i reduce the Discrimination down to 4,apart from that i use it on all my sites,could not get on with full tones as i was getting brain overload from it.

Also these days i tend to just use the audio and not used my controller for months,the audio is far more reliable than any screen is especially at depth,i feel that if you hear a target but the screen is not registering a target signal folks would more than likely walk past without digging,on some of my roman/saxon/celtic sites the target are deeper so all you will get is a feint audio tone,this sometimes more than often is a very good target.

Of course,this is just how i use my Deus,may even get rid of my controller as its just gathering dust.

Thanks for the reply Mega. I wish the VDI was more stable and worked better because I want to be a tonal hunter but I LOVE the visual screen. Paid all that money too bad its not more accurate at depth and on clad.

yup i think its gold congrauts
see if it gives you a meter reading from 40-58
a lot of gold falls there

Thanks for the encouragement! I am still in the learning curve with the Deus so digging every solid tone. Even still I am stoked to finally nail that first gold. And my wife loves the new pinkie ring! I wish I could ID the manufacturer though.
