First Goldquest SS Gold

Found my first piece of gold with my Goldquest SS. Truthfully I haven't used it more then a handful of times due to work and an absolutely horrible winter here on Long Island. Got a faint signal and dug this small charm. What amazed me was the depth I was able to recover it from. Have been digging lots of deep nickels every time I've been out, but this surprised me. A measured air test showed I was able to pick it up at 10+ inches. Just had to compare it with my sovereign. Best I could do with the sov wide open was about 6 inches. Quite a difference. Want to comment you and Eric on producing one fabulous machine!

it may be slightly flawed. I can air test my Explorer with the stock coil and get a quarter at a little more than a foot. On the beach I have found quite a number of quarters at 15"(and maybe a bit more). I get the impression that PI's air test very close to actual field depths. Maybe Mr. Bill can jump in here on this one. Bob, if you want to help us all out, return to the beach and rebury it and use the sov. Please keep posting all that small gold.

This Goldquest SS will get deep small gold better then the Sovereign or the Explorer. I have a Sovereign and recently sold my Explorer and there is no way they could have seen this at the depth I recovered it. I stated the air test figures because I didn't have a ruler with me at the beach, but I don't think my numbers are off. Actually you will probably get a quarter deeper then the Goldquest. It is not set up for that. It is more sensitive to gold then coins with the exception of nickels, which fall into the gold range of conductiveness. I dig deeper nickels then any other coin. I'm just very happy I bought one.

It appears that the salt environment tends to enhance the return signal to the detector. This is hard to duplicate in field test, but this may explain why a target such as the quarter you mentioned can be found at deeper depths than out of the sand. Overall this holds true whatever unit your using, VLF or PI. If you got 12"+ testing a quarter, and 15" in the salt sand, I would say OK to that. It sounds about right. The percentages are there no matter what the detector.
I have plenty of time on the salt beach

as an example, trying to say that targets can be found in the wet sand deeper than air testing. I really didn't know if PI's acted the same way. Another mystery bites the dust. Thanks again Mr. Bill.

It is quickly becoming my number one machine for beach hunting also. Getting very used to it now and I'm thinking about using it first more often. Kinda feel like I'm gonna miss something if I don't. Hope all is well with you.
Bob

hi mr. bill, thanks for the info on quarters at depth in salt invironment. WHEW! i HAVE TOLD FOLKS that I have found Quarters at a measured 16" with my mxt in wet an dry salt sand at the north carolina beaches with the whites MXT but I got back some negative responses from folks that didnt believe me, I feel vindicated , thanks!!! jimmy pearce

I have stated this before and this will be a bit different. Beach Hunting with the Goldquest is hunting in a different level than has been hunted. For many years most all beaches have been hunted with VLF detectors...nowdays there are some deeper VLF's but they have been out for a while and many have them...I figure this area hunted by VLF's as "Level 1." The Goldquest SS will enter and work hard the level below "Level 1", I call this "Level 2." Level 2 to me seems to be mosty or is a virgin area that I am hitting. The more deeper PI's that are sold then soon this "Level 2" will be stripped or thinned out of it contents. If you are now using a Goldquest or any other the other really deep PI's then you like I, am having a ball... I just cannot imagine hunting behind a Goldquest SS with a normal or any VLF...Now nobody finds everything but there sure is less to be found behind a Goldquest. Frank

After 3 or 4 scoops of about twenty pounds of wet sand and there's a nickle in the scoop has me shaking my head everytime it happens, but the gold shows up often enough to keep me digging

Halo effect can't be created in a air test. Most gold isn't pure 24k gold and if left in a corrosive salt will leach minerals into the soil. That's why the quarter is found at greater depths in the ground than in the air. It is also why you get false id readings on your id type detectors
