First good find with my SE

Well, I have already mentioned this on another post, but now I am ready to post some pictures of my first significant ( I think ) find with my Explorer SE. I will post before, ( cleaning ) and after pictures . This was the first thing I have found where I felt like I knew what the machine was saying to me. I didn't know what it was going to be ,but I knew there was something there worth digging and I knew about where it was. Kind of a breakthrough moment for me. I can't wait to get so I know it better, the possibilities seem end less . I am especially anxious to go back and re-hunt some sites I have already hunted ( like the site where I found my 1785 2 reale silver), and see what I missed on the first several go rounds:detecting:

:usaflag:Nice ! What was your method for cleaning it?

I soaked it in olive oil overnight and then started scrubbing it with a soft bristle toothbrush. Then I would soak it some more and periodically take it out and wipe it off with some paper towel. If it seemed like it had softened up a little ,I would take my thumb nail and just scrape the gunk off. that was over a period of 2 days and that brought it to what you see in the "after"pics. It's back in the oil now to see if I can coax that last bit that is mostly covering the" 2 cents" off.

I would surely consider that a significant find. :clapping: Congrats.

You're on some good hunting ground.....definitely go over the old sites you've hunted before. Super find...nice clear date...

Great find, Nidan98. Any particular reason why you used olive oil to soak the coin, versus a non-food related version - say, mineral oil? Just curious, since I have both available at the house. If olive oil would work better, it would be helpful to me to know. Thanks, and continued good hunting to you! Johnny

Johnny, I used olive oil because somebody suggested it and it seems to work pretty well . Lately though I have heard that mineral oil might work better,I just haven't picked any up yet so I used what I had available.

Good work....keep it up.
If you have the patience...the SE is a deep coin killer like NO other.:clapping:

I can't believe the hits I get with this machine[, over spots where my old Bounty Hunter is dead silent and if I move just an inch either way I will get different tones. It's like there is so much stuff in the ground that I was missing before. Two of my buddies that I work and hunt with both have White Prizm V s and they are both thinking about getting SE s now./size]
