First hunt 2011...Lady luck Smiled

New member
Sick with a bad case of cabin fever, 47 degrees in southwest Virginia and my X-70 back from the metal detector doctor..I just had to go and lady luck gave me a big smile. I went to the area where last year I recovered a lot of .69 musket balls and other items. The field was frozen solid so digging was impossible.
I moved into the adjoining wood area. My first target was a button (appears new) but it got my blood flowing.
I then recover my first railroad caboose  This thing was right at 10". From under a root to an old oak tree stump I recovered another .69 cal ball. Rather odd there was no patina on the led. Perhaps the root protected it. I moved to another part of the wood near the road. I got a very faint signal and a reading of 18. I cleared the leaves and dug about two inches. I then received a 36 signal and a solid tone. Was I surprised when, at about 6", a 1912 Barbara Dime popped out. I'm thinking a pretty good start to 2011.

 Nice start TomB; for the first of the year. Now I am getting the bug but I am going to have to wait about three months for the ground to thaw. lol

Doug :usaflag:

I swing the 10.5 DD 7.5kHz coil about 90% of the time. Three tones and sensitivity at 30.

Great way to start off the year....

Cool I have been out 2x with squat to report Once testing the AT and once using the 705. I did find that one of the places I have hunted a tone still has an area that has not been hunted yet. But all I got there was about a dozen Al nails junk broach and several Pennies.

Hi tom

I like your finds
That looks like a good detecting area
I hope 2011 brings you warmer weather and more good signals
Congrats

Congrats on that sweet silver Tom! You know I am kinda funny, I like the RR Caboose! Well done, Beale.

Being a detectorist and a train buff, I'm torn. Can't deny in this case, silver is just a little sweeter but I would have loved to pull up the train car.

A barber is the perfect way to start the year!!! I am from Ok. And haven't had bad weather till this week. There has been ice on the ground since sunday night and is supposed to be here till the weekend.... I don't know how you go weeks or months like that. Just about to drive me crazy! Congrats on the caboose...
