After woodchiphustler's post, I am almost embarrased to pass along my first impressions of the LTD. He certainly had a bunch of great targets. Anyway, I did get out for 1 1/2 hours on a old military housing site and while no silver came to light, I can attest the bp mode is all that it is cracked up to be. I was able to set the LTD up and hunt in the same hot modes that I usually do with the regular F 75...0 disc., 95 sen. and the bp mode. The only coil I used today was the little DD. Which, appears to be a real killer in the trash. 2 of the 4 wheats that I dug were in the 7-8" depth range and upon switching back and fourth between de and bp modes, the bp mode gives a noticably cleaner tone and vdi is much less jumpy. And as Chip in Pittsburg mentioned, deeper nickels come in clearer with a less bouncy id, too. I dug 1 in the 6-7" range and there was no broken tone in bp and the vdi hung right at 29, 30, and 31. The most noticable thing for me, though, was how hard the bp mode hits coins on edge. None that I recovered were all that deep, 4-6," but with the DD coil and in the bp mode, I knew without a question that these coins were on edge and the vdi was far less jumpy then in de. I dug 1 clad quarter at a 4" depth that had a somewhat jumpy id, 76-83, but in one small spot sounded great and repeated a 82 reading. After recovering the quarter I noticed the end of a copper pipe sticking out one side of the hole about 5" deep. The quarter had been within an inch of the copper pipe. I guess I better check the dates on the wheaties and see if the LTD is beginning to pay for itself, yet. LOL. HH jim tn
