First impressions using a DigiSearch on a gt

After about 8 months with my gt I finally got a meter. I tried very hard to learn the tones. I put different targets in envelopes and tried to "guess" what was in them. I could not tell a zinc penny from a copper, or a nickel from a pull tab etc .. from the tones. But now with the meter it's a breeze. At the beach I would always try and guess the identity of the target before digging. Just like the envelopes it was pretty much just a guess. But today at the beach with my meter it was much different. A 180 was a copper penny, dime, or quarter ( no silver today). A 145 was a nickel, a 177 was a zinc penny, a 173 was a corroded zinc penny, pull tabs were often 155 and so on. I got fooled too, a fishing weight at 177, melted aluminum at 180 and so on. I still dug about every signal but my guessing game has made a HUGE improvement. (Which was quite a thrill I might add). I feel that I can understand the sovereign language much better now and that makes me happy.
Cheers,
Jim

The meter is a very handy tool. As long as you remember that the meter will not give a true reading on deep targets in the wet sand. You get a tone dig it.

That's what I found out also. I had my GT for awhile before I got a meter and it was like night and day. I feel it is a wise investment for a first time GT owner.
Good hunting, Gary

I do not have the Digisearch Meter, I have a Sun Ray DTI III, and I too found a meter a better learning tool than tones alone.

One issue between the two meters which I have read, is that the Digisearch is powered by the Transmit Coil Signal and that the Sun Ray is powered by a nine volt battery. In the case of the DTI III it also has a back light for night hunting.

The obvious convenience of not buying and changing batteries makes the Digisearch more attractive, however I have also read that the detection depth in tests was somewhat reduced when the meter is powered by the Transmit Coil as is supposedly the case with the Digisearch.

Anyone with the Digisearch willing to test this assertion?

The only thing powered by the 9 volt battery of the Sun Ray DTI 3 is the back light, the meter is powered by the Sovereign itself. If you want take the battery out and you will see the meter still works. You will also notice the light will not work with the battery if the Sovereign is not turned on either, prevents the battery going dead if the button is pushed my accident.

I will try this and report back in a few days, as I am not at home I am presently in Dubai UAE. My memory is I tried what your are suggesting and the meter did not in fact work without the battery installed. However you have me doubting my memory, that happens a lot these days.:crylol:

RIck,

You are correct, it in fact does work without the battery and the light is the only thing powered by the 9V battery. Now I can conduct my own tests for depth and see if powering the meter off of the Tx coil does affect depth. Thanks for the correction.

If they can join all these gadgets together they would have a hell of a machine, It gets to complicated and weighted

Here's a link to my target ID chart using the GT and the DigiSearch meter...
