First Indian Head w/ SE

Found my first IH with the SE tonight, a 1901. Now I've found one each w/ each detector. (1892 w/ Tesoro, 1900 w/ Sov, and now this one.)

I needed that. Been fighting the machine lately but I think a lot of that was using the WOT, which was kicking my ass, so I switched back to the 10.5" Slimline tonight. Even that was too much in the trashy section I started out in tonight. Moved down into the flat are of the ballfield and things started picking up, first off with a 1936 wheat and then a 1946 wheat. Ended up with a silver hammered earring about the same depth as the IH had been at and called it a night. I'll be back to that spot. (Still looking for my first Barber, etc.)

I'll try to post pics later.

Oh, almost every target I dug had more than one thing in it--nails, bottle caps, pulltabs, etc. But couldn't find anything else in the IH hole, even though the signal was jumping around a lot. And it ws doing this weird iron sound/nulling (and I'm running AM) around it. Wonder what else I'm missing because of that sort of thing.

(Bill or Rich, if you're reading this, PM me please.)

I am of the belief that the stock coil for any given machine no matter Brand. Will give the best perfomance for that machine. "even the slimline" with its little quarks. Each maufactorer has gone to great lengths to match the size and shape of their coils to get the most from their machines. Putting a larger coil on gives better coverage but may not give anymore depth. On the same note a larger coil may give better depth but the machine may not be able to process the amount of soil under that coil as well as the stock.
I have found the larger than stock coils no longer have a place in my type of hunting. To me the best depth combined with proper ID and responce is most importent.

Here's the finds (minus some pulltabs and can slaw)

Bob, I bought the WOT mainly for the beach but figured I might use it in large fields and such for more coverage. It can find small stuff though. BUt it sure puts an achin' on the shoulder. And it's no fun at all in trash for a beginner either! Man, that thing can read way out to the side along the horizontal axis.

Good finds Rich!! I have dug a lot of good stuff with junk in the same hole, awesome detector. Thanks for sharing!
