Hi everybody, hope you don't mind me posting this here...being a fellow "FBS'er" and all. If you guys would rather have us Quattro types post someplace else just say the word, but WHERE else?
I usually post over at the BBS forum (Sovereign Elite) and the CZ Classroom (CZ-70) but I just got this new Quattro yesterday and now I need another forum to post in. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="

So I wanted to hit someplace that I knew had produced some good finds in the past and also that was fairly clean, to get to know the new machine. So after reading the book cover-to-cover and trying it out in my backyard, I set off to some woods in Suffolk Virginia to try it out. These woods have been hunted hard and have produced mostly bullets and a few coins and not much at all lately. It would be a good test. I used the Quattro in Coin/Jewelry mode as I had no desire to dig anything in the negative range today. I didn't fiddle with the sensitivity or anything else this time out...just left it "stock". Even the default volume and threshold sounded great in my Black Widow's, so I didn't mess with it. If there are other Quattro users reading this I would be interested in hearing your tips, tricks, what you run your sens at, anything you've learned.
<STRONG>Here's a pic of the Quattro, propped on my Lesche Ground Shark...the woods I would be hunting in the background. Handsome machine, eh? I really like the Carbon Fiber lower rod and the strong upper and lower lever-locks...this machine is sturdy. The field in this picture once produced scads of Civil War 3-ringer miniballs and buttons..."hunted out" is an understatement now.</STRONG>

<STRONG>Here are the woods, on the way in...it's a jungle out there. I love this kind of hunting in the winter. Spend 15 minutes out here in the summer and you'll have 50 ticks on you. <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock">
</STRONG><img src="http://members.cox.net/pctech/pic2.jpg" alt="" />
<STRONG>This is the first target I dug...a 58 cal 3-ringer Union Miniball...it was a good 8 inches down and came up very prominently, playing that funky music <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> and reading about a 35 on the meter. I would dig 3 more of these and a musketball as well.</STRONG>

<STRONG>A nice ornate spoon...this baby was singing like a silver dollar...oh well.</STRONG>

I also dug a 1920 wheatie, a 19-teen-something Merc dime, a 45 cal (?) round, and several small lead/bullet pieces. This Quattro really has some depth to it and the sensitivity to small stuff is very nice. It pinpoints well and despite being a little heavy and LOOKING even heavier, the balance was very good and I swung it for over 3 hours without any problem at all. I'm pretty impressed with it and happy with my results for a first-time hunt. I'm going to be hitting some more sites in the next couple of days, some CW and maybe a coin site or two. Hopefully I'll have some more stuff to post. I was solo today but on Sunday I'll be hunting with a couple of my Fisher CZ-buddies and hope to be able to do some head-to-head depth comparisons too. Hope everybody is able to get some swing time in this weekend and if you can't, I'll swing one for you. Merry Christmas! <IMG SRC="/metal/html/ml.gif" BORDER=0 width=30 height=15 ALT="m~">
