First outing with the Deus

Took the Deus out for the first time in the backyard for about an hour today. The yard has seen an E-Trac, CTX, G2, Compadre, Tejon and now the Deus. My boys were playing in the snow so I couldn't truly concentrate on detecting whilst watching them. I used Deus fast and I as hearing a lot more in the ground but unfortunately all I found as 3 bottle caps, 2 chunks of iron and a very old door knob. The knob was adjacent to one of the chunks of iron which were 12" down. My house is a village home built in the 1850s but unfortunately I have never pulled any coin earlier than 1900s. The yard is the most difficult ground that I have ever hunted, blanketed with iron. Perhaps the older coins, if there are any, are very deep. The bottle caps were solid tones and well, I hope there is a way to overcome this.

Looks like your home will eventually give up very old coins from the 1850 era, Keep at it bound to be older coins and relics buried there.

Sill new to the Dues so can't be much of a help there, But have noticed surface bottle caps don't lock on the number varies so this is kind of an indicator to me it's a bottle cap instead of a high conductive coin.

Good luck and may the Deus find those hidden old coins on your property,
Paul (Ca)

If you are talking about the steel bottlecaps sometimes they can fool you. A couple things I do to try to ID them is slowly lift the coil as you swing over the target. With a coin the ID will stay pretty stable on the bottlecaps the ID will start to drop off and the sound will break up sometimes. I also swing my coil back towards me or away from me and get the target at the edge of the coil. A lot of times it will give an iron reading if its a bottle cap. For me the quickest way is to just lift the coil as you swing over the target.

Was reading Andy's book last night and came across this on the (Silencer) feature, Now granted I'm still a lost pup with the Deus so I'm no expert by any means but found this interesting. This may help me in the thickest of iron places masking out good signals and may be of help on bottle caps, Please note going too high with the Silencer will weaken those weak signals so go easy with the Silencer feature maybe only use it when you're having issues with bottle caps. With the Deus fast mode the Silencer is set at -1 but from what I understand increasing it to "4" will help you with Rusty bottle caps, Haven't tried this yet so what I'm sharing here is from the book.

Good luck,
Paul (Ca)

Old CA, thanks for doing the research. My biggest obstacle is the iron, not just nails but literally a blanket of iron. The yard had been used to dump appliances and car parts so I can not swing the coil without hitting iron. The bottle caps are just an added annoyance. I have considered a tiller and large magnet to clean the topsoil, well before I do that I'll see what the Deus can do. I will try 8kHz, reactivity 3 , 2 tones and I want to hear everything. I was able to run the Deus at 90 SEN with no chatter at all ( I was very pleased ) and I was getting 87 on the GB.

Do you have Andys book? Use his heavy trash or another custom heavy trash one.....
