First REAL finds with the X-70

It warmed up to the upper 40's F today, so I took advantage of it. Couldn't dig very deep, but I was able to get 3-5" down in the washed gravel of the school and park playgrounds.

I mostly stayed in C&T mode, 99 tones, Sens 15, auto tracking. Switched between Pattern 1 and All Metal often. 9" MF concentric.

Learned that I don't get a "depth indication" when it hits iron.:thumbdown:

I'll probably build myself a chest harness and bungy cord.(no sense making my beginning carpal tunnel any worse)

Pull tabs suck...but candy/gum foil is worse.

Overall...I'm pretty happy.:detecting::yo:

Looks like you are getting the hang of it. Any time you find jewelry is a good day. Was the place really trashy as sensitivity 15 is pretty low?

Every time I hit a -6 or -4, the detector said it was full depth. I was trying cut out those deep irons that I couldn't dig.

Took me a while to figure out the depth scale wasn't working on those targets.

Do you Auto Noise cancel each time you go out? I didn't until I read a post here a couple of months ago. Noise cancelling stabilizes the depth reading amongst other things.

I'm learning to drive a 705 and have found that -4s and-6s also show full depth even when shallow and I do do auto noise cancel each time I go out. I still dig them when they are in my yard though as I want to clear it of junk (it's an old fruit orchard so there are lots of rusty nails and bits of wire, which I am hoping is masking other goodies :happy:

No, I didn't noise cancel for each location. There wasn't much in the way of electrical lines, houses, etc...so I didn't think it was a big deal. I'll noise cancel more often from now on.

Jaffnut,
Glad to know that you are seeing the same thing on iron targets in regard to depth. Might be an issue when I go meteorite hunting. At least there are other ways to estimate depth. These are the things I need to learn.:happy:

Temperatures are supposed to get to the upper 40's F again this week. I see more dimes and quarters in my future.:clapping:

Just a helpful suggestion for your carpel tunnel syndrome. My doctor years ago told me to try taking vitamin B complex, i have been taking them for along time now and it has helped me alot.I get the super B complex made thru Nature made brand. It will definitely be worth trying.

Glad your getting the hang of it. Wtg on the jewelry!
