Found Saturday 22nd Feb. My first silver coin of 2014 A Continental series Saxon Sceat minted in the Frisian area .Stylised head on the obverse Standard type reverse Circa 695 to 720 A.D.
12 mm diameter 2.1 gram this is the third of its type that I have found in35 years. All different though last one in 2006

Brian, thats a stunning Sceat, dont come up very often but that is in very good condition, did it come off a potential Saxon site or just the odd random one ??

great find tell us more :clapping:

Nothing Saxon had ever come from the area that has produced Roman finds in the past. There is a Medieval Deer Park near

These coins came into Britain via the immigrants from the continent during the late 7th century they can be look on as degraded Roman designs with the slyised head and the standard on the reverse.

Nice silver, that is awesome to find some coinage Iike that!!

The machine used was the T2 SE set at 60 10 then boost The find was not deep about 5 inches in a ploughed field that had been left in stubble since the harvest last year. The UK has had a very wet time over the last two months or so many areas inundated with farms and houses badly flooded. This field had a virtual river running at its lower edge about 12 inches deep 8 feet wide and running fast. I have never seen water in this field before. It seemed to come from up the hill acting like a spring does then flowing through the field down to the local village about a mile away. All this was in West Berkshire.

Cool find, I'm going to have to wander over that way one of these days just to see if I can find something cool.

That's just amazing. We don't have stuff that old around here.
