First Texas, why not tell us specifically what is included in the $50 upgrade instead of having everyone guessing what is and what is not being done??

Because what was explained to me earlier today by them on the phone is not and has not been posted on this site with either the clarity or the entirety that it and you and all others deserve. And after reading Bill's and other's posts on the subject it seems there is and will continue to be confusion on the subject where a simple statement by them would completely resolve. I do work for customers every day and in my contracts I specifically list what I am and more importantly what I am not doing so there is no confusion. I am not poking at First Texas as I feel the upgrade they did to my machine was well worth the 50 bucks, however, I was confused by the different posts I read here and thought others may have the same confusion, but since you are very clear on the subject, go ahead and enlighten us all, please. There is a vast difference in what is mentioned here and what they actually do and many would jump at the upgrade if they actually understood all that it entailed and I thought it to the benefit of First Texas to make such a statement. I am guessing that you took that to be a knock on your beloved F-75 maker.
while FT had them doing the upgrade they apparently checked the machine out and fixed or replaced anything else befunked at the same time. So people are getting their machines back with things done to it that are not inclusive of the upgrade and posting that so that others think it is something that they are supposed to be getting when they are not. Bravo for FT doing such a thing but it will come back and Bite them in their Arse unless they are real quick to explain that to their customers. They replaced my coil, my 5 pin connector and my head phone jack not because of the upgrade but because they were defective. That doesn't mean everyones getting a new coil with the $50 upgrade. Charlie P NY posted that he thought they replaced the back 1/4 inch of his battery compartment with a new one presumably to put in some kind of an internal gasket. I got my machine back and saw no such upgrade and then read Bill's post about "modifications made to the battery compartment" and naturally assumed that they forgot to do mine

I doubt I will be the only one calling them as more and more people post what they did to their specific machines and others are unclear what was supposed to be done.

I just sent mine back and this is what Felix told me was included in the "upgrade" for $50. Felix was pretty clear and concise when he explained it to me.
1. New style weatherproof housing
2. New foam pads? for the battery compartment to hold the batteries better (I thought someone here said springs, but Felix said pads)
3. New style "tougher foam" handgrip
My machine has some weird problem with the 5 pin connector/plug like Digitrich and that is why I sent it in. To me, its worth the extra $50 to make sure it doesn't have to go back again anytime soon due to water intrusion and the like. I agree with everyone else that this is a pretty expensive detector to need upgrades but I am glad that they are willing to do it. I think that in the end it will be worth it. These F75s are not built like some other machines that can take serious abuse, but they are very lightweight, balanced, and seem to perform very well. I understood what I was buying and all about the upgrade when I bought it. I did a ton of research. I guess i should be upset right now because I bought mine new last Saturday and was only able to use it for 30 minutes before the whole 5 pin thing started making it go nuts. I am really not that upset at all. Things happen in manufacturing that are beyond any QC control. I am confident that when it returns it will be better than new. From what I understand the techs at First Texas are pretty good. I kinda feel like mine will now have it's own personal QC manager checking it out. If they do not do what they said I will be upset. I guess time will tell. I will post an update when it arrives.

As mentioned, there may or may not be a new back-plate on mine. It looks "shinier" but that may just be they cleaned it before working on it. My coil had not a fleck of dirt or dust on it when it returned and I'm pretty sure it was not that clean when I sent it. It's either new or well "detailed"
The paperwork stated "Repair and Upgrade" and the enclosed letter said "We have received your Fisher model F-75 and based on our review of the product, we have determined that the product is in need of repair."
"We have tested your F-75. We find it to be in perfect working order."
So, obviously, they benched it and made whatever "repairs" were necessary.
When this $%@#^!* snow melts and th ground thaws I'll see if it runs differently.

You need to call Fisher Labs and ask for Felix to get a reapir order setup. After that, ship the detector and pay $50 and your good.

That's common in a lot of industries. When you take your car into the dealer for an oil change and they throw the "15 point inspection" in and, if you're under warranty, fix any problem they detect at no charge. Even perform the "hidden recall" work that the manufacturer didn't inform you about and are usually transparent to you.
I'm sure they bench the units after the upgrade and they are adjusted as needed and if they then pass the "go/no go" tests are shipped back. If something fails then there may be a swap out for new parts.

WHAT DOES FISHER HAVE TO HIDE? WHY NOT BE OPEN ABOUT PROBLEMS IN THEIR MACHINE AND ISN'T THE F75 A NEW HOT MACHINE FOR FISHER? I HEAR NOW THAT ALREADY THERE IS A NEW F75 COMING OUT OR HAVE I BEEN MISINFORMED? IS THERE A UPGRADE OR A NEW AND IMPROVED F75 COMING OUT AGAIN? WHATS GOING ON HERE?

You think Ford and Chevy might be changing the 2007 models for 2008? Same thing. Did Ford and Chevy send a letter out to everyone who bought a car in 2007 that it was occuring? I think not.
