I've just purchased a Nel Tornado for my Sov and i took it out this morning for a bit of a test run.Our beaches are pretty much sanded in at the moment so targets are a bit scarce.
I didn't have a lot of time,a few hours, but i set off and moved to different areas of the beach rarther than making a concentrated effort on one patch which is my usual method and it has given me a lot of targets in the past.Anyway, usual ally pieces but then a pound coin (bottom) which was right down in the sand and required a good few scoopfuls and not long after the ring......no hallmarks so i think its gold plated stainless, although some countries don't use hallmarks so further investigation is needed......its quite heavy and it did give a gold type tone. The pleasing thing about the ring, even if it is a juncker,is the fact that is was only about 5-6 inches down in the sand, which just goes to show they are there to be found and not all too deep to be out of reach.....it gives me confidence for future sessions.
The quarter and two pound coin were taken to the beach for depth testing puroposes and included in the photo so you guys could see the size of the two pound coin compared to one of your quarters. So,on to what i think of the Nel:
1.It is very well balanced on my Sov snd doesn't feel any different to swing than the 10" tornado from Minelab.
2.It's very sensitive......it was picking up the tiniest pieces of ally so i know it won't miss much.
3.it is very easy to pinpoint with.
4.Depth.....wow.Now my Sov has been depth modded so i'm gaining about 2.5 inches over a non modded Sov so that has to be taken into consideration while testing depths.I buried the quarter at 12 inches.....i have a scale on my sand scoop handle that goes up ton12 inches so i know the depth was accurate.......it hit the quarter with a strong two way signal so i know it will go deeper on a quarter.....i need to do another test when i have an accurate way of measuring......i will increase the scale on my scoop handle.
I then buried the two pound coin.....i dug the hole deeper than the 12 inch scale and then pushed the two pound coin further into the wet sand at the bottom of the hole.....i would say it was about 16 inches down but again,it wasn't accurately measured. The Sov again hit the coin with a good two way signal......to say impressed is an underststement......yes its a big coin but all the same, very impressive.
So overall it was an interesting day,the Nel is super impressive and i found a ring which is my first for a while now.Happy days.
