Went this weekend before kidney stones set in, so far I have found quarters dimes nickles ect....just havent found anything older than late 60's

Keep at it. After a set of batteries or two you'll be much more proficient. Are you keeping a little log or notebook? I refer back to mine all the time.

I have not thought about the log book but i will start using that thanks...am I likely to find older coins around farm land? looks like everything i run across here in town is 70's and 80's type coins...thanks for the help

Coins are found where people have passed... people who had them to lose.
The more people, the more coins lost. That is the one constant - people had to have passed in significant numbers or over a long period of time. Or both.

If you want the old coins, then you have to find out where people passed in numbers - when old times were still young.

Until you do, dont wait to go. Detect any chance you get, in any place you can, that has had people on it. Ive been hauled out my detector to hunt grass medians at shopping malls, while the wife is in the store.

You dont find nuttin, unless you are out swinging that coil.

Phooey on those stones. Fought them boogers for years and had a bunch hacked out of me. First one was the size of and looked like a peach pit - lodged right in the center of my kidney. Pain you can't even describe. Used to knock me down. My neighbor and friend had one that knocked down on his living room floor and he laid there for four hours before he could get up. Mine were all big ones with some little ones to keep them company. Have you had any removed?

I read one time that the public in this country loses $300 million in coins per year. Too bad it ain't all in one spot.
