First trip of 2008! :bouncy:

Not much to show for it, but I did get some silver... Decided to hit a little park in downtown St. Louis, last Sunday, that I've had my eye on for a while. They finished doing a lot of landscaping to it last fall, and I wanted to hunt it then when the turf was all scraped up leaving bare dirt, but they had that stupid orange barrier fence all the way around it and it was in a very open space, and I didn't want to attract any undue attention to myself. This park is only about a half acre in size and it dates back to the 40's, so I didn't expect much. I started off in one spot that promptly gave up a few deep wheaties, then I get a deep solid quarter hit. I expected a clad quarter in the disturbed ground, but when I pulled dirt out of the hole I saw somethin' shiny...

a nice little silver ring! Wished it was a silver quarter... but I was lucky to get the ring.

I didn't find much more after that... the ground had a lot of filled spots and fresh sod over it all, but I did get a Merc dime as I walked back to the van. I headed out to my favorite park. The 75 degree weather made me break a sweat. I was in one of the old seated coin areas digging little bits of deep crap when I get a nice silver hit inbetween 2 pulltabs. I hoped for a seated dime, but 5" down on edge was a cruddy looking silver roosy. I managed an ate up 1885 Indian cent and an old pistol bullet, then I called it a day.
Today the cold weather returns! Take care and HH, Mike.

Mike,

Good to see you back posting more often--you were quite a "highlight reel" in recent years. What machine (XS, XS II, SE)/coil set up are you using these days? I've stayed with my XS II & use the stock coil inland & a WOT on the beaches here in S. CA.

At least you were able to get out for a bit and find a few things. Only thing I can do now is Research for more sites until Spring comes. Good Luck and HH on your next outing.:detecting:
