First year with Explorer II

Just cleaned the EX II up and it's probably the end of the season. There are a few inches of snow on the ground and it ain't gonna get any warmer until spring. My first season with the Explorer proved to verify the long learning curve. I've consulted this forum and the classroon and there are so many variations on programs, settings, etc. that it simply works out to using the machine as much as possible and mentally recording everything. I found a lot of nice silver coins during the year and lots of silver jewelry but no gold. I found a lot of really cool other stuff, too. I have a lot of places lined up to hunt but I'm waiting for next season because I want to work those places with confidence knowing I know fairly much what I'm doing. As far as the ability of the Explorer II to find stuff others have missed is verified here in my local park. The park is a little over 100 years old and has been hunted hard over the years. It is only about five acres in size and I still dig up silver and IH's that others have missed. I find the key is to work slowly and pay attention to all of the sounds. Surprisingly, most of the finds are not all that deep; 8 inches and less. Anyway, thanks to all that have answered my questions during the year and Happy Holidays to all!

The absolute key to hunting areas thought to be hunted out is first go over it with a Minelab to cherry pick what others missed. Then go back to the same areas and sweep the coil "very slow" to pick up what you missed. Then put on a 15" W.O.T. coil and go over the same areas again sweeping very slow. And do it again during very wet ground conditions. You will be surprised what you keep going over and missing. That's personal experience.
Good Hunting
