fisher 1270 or 1280

If i understand right the 1280 is for beaches? I am not up to par on fisher detectors and looking for a great detector to use with my Vaquero. I am looking at the 1270 or 1280. I do not live close enough to water to justify an all beach detector but do hit the lakes and streams around southern california. I primarily hit schools, parks and various grass areas for coins and jewelery. But Id love a good relic hunter also. I do not necessarily need a screen on a detector. can I take the 1280 to beaches and parks? Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

High,
You have to remember : the 1280 is meant for underwater detecting.
This also means, this unit is heavier than most "land detectors" for reasons of buoyancy.
Whether you really want to swing a 1280 on dry land for extended time remains your choice.
I sure wouln

If yor not doing under salt water detecting the 1270 is the way to go. all your hunting needs as you described will be no problem for the 1270, including freshwater lakes and streams up to the control box. I made mine a chest mount to get deeper. The 1270 goes super deep, has 3 mode of detecting and can be setup in different configuration for searching. 5"coil is extremely powerful, I'd say the depth is way better the the size of the coil . All three coils preform outstanding in depth. Also the 1270 is super stable. The 1270 to me is the way to. Also mine work very will at shore, I live in Jersey. Download the manual and check it out, it's on the Fisher site or PM me and I'll send you a copy. Anymore info or help just ask away.

High,
@ shooter: when you run your 1270 at the beach, do you run it in All Metal Ground Adjust or in Normal Disc (with almost no disc) ????
Never had my 1270 on the beach - used the 6000 Di Pro SL for that last time and had quite a few false signals in the wet, black sand.
I had to upscale on my disc quite a bit - which is something I usually do not do - to get rid of these false signals
Mind you - I do not live near a beach (about a 300mile drive to the nearest one)

Dry sand work it any mode, damp sand low disc or A/M, wet sand A/M or No disc and back off SEN till she get stable. Some times I can't get her stable so I move up away from the water, still plenty of ground to cover, and she still goes real deep. You might want to try the 5" coil it might be a bit more stable being the smaller affected area of the coil, wont cover as big of an area but it might be more stable to the salt.and you'll still get good depht.

High,
@ shooter,

The 1280 can be hip mounted, just use the belt clip that comes with it..........nge
