Fisher 1270

d-2

New member
Guys, I got a problem with my 1270. When I bought it new, it came from the factory with out the bolt that goes up through the handle to keep the control box on. The only thing holding the control box on is 2 very small screws. With all the stuff I have been finding lately I cant afford to send it back to the factory to get it fixed and the outfit I talked to in TX aint NEVER gonna see it. I dont think it will be hard to fix, I just dont know how or where to start. I was hopeing someone here was a fisher dealer or knew one that could tell me how to fix it with out sending it back to CA...d2

d-2,

Its an easy fix! Get a hold of Fisher and have them send you a bolt and I'll walk you thru it.

I would be really interested in this fix. I have had to return 1270s (I have owned two) a total of three times due to this nut coming loose. You cannot tighten it without opening the control box, and if you do that you void the warranty (so I am told by Fisher).

Steve,

I don't know why it would void the warranty. I use mine with the control box removed from the handle all the time. Had to send it back in to have the P/P switch replaced (my fault) so I just put it back on the rod before I sent it in. There's no way, if you are careful they will know.

Anyway here's the procedure:

<bullet>First remove the nut and star washer from the P/P switch and then do the with the coil cable connector.
Remove the 2 screws holding the straps in the battery compartment
along with the 2 deeply recessed screws visible on the underside of the unit.
Then remove the top cover being careful of the wires going to the speaker (you can disconnect them at the plug on the board if you wish to make it easier.)

Slip the board with control panel out of the bottom cover and you now have access to the bolt.

That it!

Tom
