Fisher CZ-21 ... vs.... Minelab EXCALIBER II.....?????

I am looking for a hardcore hunt in the rain machine....i want to get a surfscanners AQUASEARCH, BUT it is a PI machine that has no DISC whatsoever and is only submersible to about
8 ft...... i really dont want a dig it all machine which this PI machine is..... I am looking at the CZ-21 and also the EXCALIBER II...... what can some of you tell me about the differences between the 2 machines?? who likes what features and technology and why????

i own both detectors and my findings are that they both are about the same in depth..the CZ body mounts a little better because its not a long tube.the CZ is built like a tank.they both work in salt water as well as fresh water.the CZ likes Iron more than the Excal, the Excal will null on Iron and see good targets close to Iron better than the CZ.with the CZ you must remove the batt door to replace the AA batt's,the Excal ll batt (NIMH) is rechargable and just snaps off the tube very easy , i carry a spare and just switch them out about every 12 hrs of use.if i had to choose one it would be my Excal ll it just works better over all !

ok... thanks

Earth,

Two of the main differences between the CZ and Excal are that the CZ is a manually ground balanced machine that uses a concentric coil, while the Excal has automatic ground balance and uses a DD coil. I have a CZ and an Excal, and Bling is correct in that the CZ hip mounts easier. The CZ uses 4 9V batteries while the Excal has the battery pack.

In areas of very heavy iron, you have to slow down with both machines, but you have to watch the nulling on the Excal, as it can null and stay nulled over a good target if you move too fast. Pin pointing is a little easier with the CZ due to the concentic coil and the pin point button.

Both are deep, multi tone detectors. I use my Excal a little more because I beach hunt a lot and the bigger DD coil covers more ground. But it gets to be a pain sometimes using the hip mount configuration....and I have a straight shaft for it and it is still heavy. The CZ is heavy too, but I have a belt I bought that makes the hip mount config on the CZ more comfortable.

A third one you may want to consider is the Whites Beach Hunter ID. It is the only one out of the 3 that can ID in all metal mode via it's light system. I got one coming ( it's the newer 300 model with the bigger coil) and will now throw that one in the mix to compare.

I don't think you would go wrong with any of them and it is all up to your preference of how/where you are going to hunt. If you are going to be doing a lot of coin shooting in the rain, I think the CZ would be better....if you are going to be doing more beach hunting, the Excal would have the edge.

Thanks everybody for your responses......

I talked with MR. BILL for awhile this morning and he said a lot of the same things..... i also talked with him about PI versus VLF and he even said that VLF was the way to go with what i was wanting to do..... I now have a DETECTORPRO WADER on its way with 8" coil..... for just a rain or hurricane machine it seemed like the best way to go.... Mr. Bill said that he has had a lot of success with it especially over PI machines..... just carry a 3" galvanized 8 penny nail with you.... set it in the sand..... set the DISC and go......

does anyone else use the DP wader??????

n/t

whats the real difference in the excal and the excal II...... slimmer coil? , high vis?, different batt?.......... is that it????

...but, I WAS going to recommend you look in to the wader. I have one and love it. When you mentioned hunting in the rain, as opposed to diving, I was going to chime in about checking out the Detector Pro Wader.

I think you made a great choice...it's a very simple, light weight, easy detector to use. And mine is really hot on silver and works very well on the salt beaches. It discriminates very well the iron nails and bits. The tone is very scratchy and broken on small iron with the sens at 2...at 3, the bottle caps start to sound bad. I don't run any higher than 3, and when there is a good target ( or low conductive target like a pull tab or aluminum, the tone is very sharp and distinguishable.

Most of all, you will have FUN with this detector.

yea.... it gets here tomorrow..... cant wait..... i have read a lot of good reviews on it on this site and other sites..... a lot of times your best bet on beaches is DIG IT ALL..... i have talked with Troy Galloway of TROY detectors who lives down the street from me and i have a SHADOW X5 of his a that i am totally in love with...... its a bad ass monster with depth.... it has a beach sand mode and a BLACK sand mode also along with FREQ shift in case other tectorists are in your path... just switch FREQs and you can pretty much blank out their interference.. i am taking both to Galveston with me that way i have one for good and one for bad weather.... PLUS.. i have a in surf hunter also

cant wait .... cant wait.... cant wait
