Fisher F2

I am thinking about buying the Fisher F2. Is this a good detector for some one just starting out, I am not sure if I will enjoy detecting, however I have always wanted to try it, I don't want to spend too much money on a detector just yet, any information would be helpful. Thanks

Probably just about the best detector out there for the price. Just be patient and learn it! I had one 3 years ago and after I sold it I really missed it. I just bought another one about a month ago and love it!. Be sure to spend the extra 15 bucks and get the 2 coil package with pinpointer, it will save you some money in the long run. You can find some great stuff with the F2. Just ask REVIER on this forum. He made me a believer for sure. The F2 is an awesome machine and will take you far into the hobby should you decide to stick with it. It's a great hobby and quite addictive. Happy Hunting

campnagle is another poster who hunts with the F2 to great success, he hasn't posted since December though...Camp! You out there? You OK?

This is the best value on the market...period!
Considering what it costs, what it can do, the value of the the extra coils in most of the packages and the cheap cost of most coils aftermarket, plus all the features and benefits in this supposedly, "beginner detector", I can't see anything that quite compares.
Unlike other entry level detectors anywhere near this price that are usually not very similar to their more expensive cousins up-line, to me this one seems to have some of the abilities and features of Fisher's way more expensive upper end units but is just missing some whistles and bells which you don't pay for, anyway.

A beast on coins, fantastic on jewelry and just about everything else, it has found me some of the best treasure of my career and this was not by design...I own a few others and I bought this as a back-up take on vacation detector, only.
It just didn't work out that way.

Hey REVIER, I've been wanting to ask you: Why do you end up using the F2 more often than the other detectors you own? I know the pictures of the finds speak for themselves, but I would like to hear your input.

Last year I did.
When I am on a roll with any detector I just keep going till the mojo runs out and I had quite a streak with the F2.
I also pull out the Compadre quite a bit when I feel like a change and that one is also much fun for me to use although in a different way.
I go on streaks with that one too so I could go a month or two and use nothing else when it finds me the good stuff.
I have the 7" coil model which works equally as well in trashy sites and wide open sites where I don't get the feeling I am missing something like I would using very small coils.
I use the Vaq too, from time to time, but the disc on that one is just a hair less sharp then on the Compadre and since I use that disc knob to figure out my signals on every one I just feel a little more comfortable using the Compadre.

Last year I did pull out the Vaquero a few times and even though I wasn't that much into hunting sites that needed major depth, the large DD coil I usually have mounted on that one works great when I have larger, wide open areas to cover.
I got lucky last summer and found a nice 14k wedding ring running around a large area like a crazy man swinging much too fast and wild but still happened to pick up this signal using this set up.
Like I said, pure luck, but the way I was moving I am not sure I would have had even a chance of finding this if I was not using this type of detector and its speed AND the DD coil with its large scanning field.

This year I plan on trying to get better at finding older coins and relics and will probably require more depth so the Vaq will be used much more, I am sure.
Of course I also have the itch to buy a new detector, maybe an F70 or F75 so that is on the table and we will see.
