Fisher F4 or Minelab 305

Going to upgrade from my BHQDII to 1 of these 2 machines. Opinions needed but keep it to these 2 machines only please.

The new F4 would have a 5 year warranty, longer than the Minelab. Also, the F4 disc segments are directed toward US coinage, while the Minelab is not. Of course, you soon learn the ML numbers

I like the lightweight round concentric coils on the Minelabs, more than the 11" DD coil on the Fisher....just a personal preference. I also prefer the AA battery machines over the D cell machines, but that is not a big item

I feel the build quality is better on the Xterra machine

So it is a tough call there. Either machine will do well. I have an F5 and an X-705, and enjoy them both

Can't comment on the 305 but I have an F4. does funny stuff with modern cdn. clad sometimes but very learnable. As for build quality...F series all have same shafts which comprises about 99% of the build...very solid imo. 11" DD coil has awesome target separation, great coverage and depth and iron discrimination on the F4 is superior to the 305 I've heard. F4 can take any of the coils that fit the F2 or Bounty Hunter line of detectors as well. 4" sniper, 8" & 10" round concentric. Esthetically, the minelab does look better imo but looks mean nothin' as long as the unit perform well.

Good luck in your decison.

Swing low and swing slow...unless you got an F4 in which case you should swing a bit faster. :canadaflag:

When I purchased a few months ago I narrowed it down to these two models too. In the end I went for the F4, its was the 11"dd coil that swung it in the end .. for my situation, which is maily coin shooting and easy targets the f4 would be faster .. if I was after relics, maybe..(maybe) the minelab would be better with its multiple frequencies
