Fisher F70 Metal Detector

Signal

New member
Has an owner of a Fisher F70 metal detector tested a 14 Karat woman's diamond engagement ring and found the signal to be void of sound. I have had the experience of testing my wife's engagement ring and finding the detector, set at numerous settings, to be void of any signal that a metal had been detected. Testing a man or woman's 14 karat wedding band produced a very good signal at an air test of about 8 inches.
I would appreciate an answer if any F70 owners had the same results. I called and talked to a Fisher representative and he stated that the reason was the small amount of gold in a woman's engagement ring. Is this a common feature of the F70? My CZ5 had no difficulty producing a loud signal on the same ring!

small gold can register in the foil range sounds like you might have the disc set to high or have it notched out try doing a factory reset then try it. i know my f70 would pick up very small gold rings with no problem hh

No problem here either...got a tiny one this year January in a gravel totlot that weighs 1.1 gr, or .9 i forget, but it is small and sounded like foil.
1 disc, 55 sens, -3thresh, de mode, dp tones, 1 notch, 11" dd coil..
Do that factory reset like EZ suggested, you should get good clear signals on even small foil targets, like those tiny rivets off pants. A ring of any size has no chance of escaping the F70, unless for some reason, your disc is too high or foil is notched out, again, as EZ stipulated. Let us know what you discover.

Thank you, eZ4sure, for the invaluable info. Changing back to the factory reset solved the problem. Mudpuppy suggested the same.
I tested the ring via air and it sounded off at a maximum distance of 3 inches. Does that sound reasonable with your experience with the F70?
Thanks again, we can rely on guys like you and Mudpuppy with your experience.

Thank you, Mudpuppy, your advise was taken the same as was ez4sure. Using the info solved the problem I was experiencing with settings other than the factory setting. It seemed strange that a multitude of settings, even those suggested in the lmanual did not make the ring respond to the settings on the detector. Being used to a Tesoro and Fisher detectors, prior to using one like the F20, was a new experience,
I preferred using settings other than the factory setting, not knowing that a fine gold ring like an engagement rig was difficult to detect in any other but the factory setting.
Thanks again,
Signal

No worries Signal, just watch your disc setting...those little gold rings are in the foil range... the larger gold shows from 30 on up...
You dont need to be in factory settings to find them, just as long as your disc, or notch isnt bumping them out.
Pick a tone mode you like, theres a lot to chose from, if your hunting gold in the totlots beaches or fields, key on those foil and nickle and pulltab signals, but know that the large mens gold class rings are up in the zinc penny range, and the girls class rings are in the 36 +-3 signal range. Good Luck!

I'll keep those settings in mind, especially the notch setting. Thanks Mud, and hope you and eZ4sure the best in your next search.

Hang around on this forum a little bit more, you'll get to meet some of the REAL experts with the F70. Once it warms up some and they come out of hibernation! I cant figure whats taking them so long this year.
