Fisher Gold Bug original model

A guy wants to sell me an original Gold Bug and after speaking with Lupe at First Texas they don't repair them anymore. Since I live in Louisiana I won't be finding tiny gold nuggets but I thought it could be used for some coins. Is this true or is it strictly a "gold bug"?
The wants $50 but if I can't use it it's not worth it. Can y'all give me some advice?

It will detect all metal if in working condition but it is not a dedicated coin machine so be prepared to dig...

A Fisher original Gold Bugs in good working condition are usually an easy sell between 250.00 and 275.00. This unit is still a decent machine for nugget hunting.
