I met Taylor (CZconnoisseur) and his dad and uncle at a old house site this morning. It didn't turnout to be a good site so we left there and went another site that I knew of that was nearby. Right off I dug a toy gun. Boy those things were poplar back in the day. I was using the "DE" mode, 4H tones, discrimination 7, GB 62, with the sensitivity set on 70. The 'DE' mode is definitely better than the 'boost' mode at trashy sites. I guess a good thing to do would be to grid search the area in both modes. I ended up getting my coil over a 1944 Mercury Dime, a 1943 War Nickel, some clad coins and some Wheat Pennies ( 1952, 1957, 1950, 1957, 1951, 1947, 1951 ) before the rain sent me to the car. Taylor found a silver ring that had a pretty stone mounted on it. He was swinging in the rain when I left.
On my way home I spent time looking for more places to detect. I talked to a guy for nearly 30 minutes on his side porch about politics. I ended getting permission to detect his really large corner lot. The house was built in 1948. I bet that I'll get my coil over some silver coins, maybe a gold ring or two at that site. I always have high hopes.
