I am planning on going to Florida in the near future and I saw a post on someone using the prospect mode on the X70 on the beach in the wet sand and now I cant find the post and I think it was on this board so dose anyone where I can find the post.
Also any input on using the X70 on the beach down the there would be appreciated. And I have read the FAQ section.

Thank you.

Doug

I did a search on this forum for the words Prospecting beach and came up with quite a few pages of posts. Here are a couple responses I made to previous posts, in reference to your specific question.....

You should be able detect smoothly in the Prospecting mode with proper settings in GB and Sensitivity. Listening to the threshold tone in Prospecting mode is like listening to a ground balance tone. If you have the X-70 GB correct, the tone should be smooth and steady. If your X-70 is not ground balanced correctly, the threshold tone will be unstable. As with dirt hunting, if the sensitivity is set too high, you will get a lot of varying ground noise. The trick in Prospecting mode is to set the GB so that you are hearing a steady threshold tone. And then raise the sensitivity as high as you can without disrupting that steady tone. One other thing you might check is the Noise Cancel. Changing channels might help quiet things down too.

The X-70 is set default to tracking GB when the Prospecting mode is applied. If you then implement Beach GB, the tracking goes away. I found that when you are in Prospecting mode with Beach GB, AND if you have that zero on the screen, simply press the GB button again and it will display the GB level. You can then adjust the GB with the +/- pads. And, if you toggle back and forth by pressing the GB button, you will go from the GB reading (which you can adjust) to that pesky zero. Over and over again!!! To check the level of the Iron Mask, temporarliy take it out of Beach GB mode. After you do that, pressing the GB button will toggle you back and forth from Iron Mask setting to the GB setting. And you can adjust either with the +/- buttons from there.

Thanks Randy I really appreciate the info. I live in Michigan and the beaches down there is a whole new thing to me and I don't want it to be a total waist of a trip.
I'm going to print the info and take it with me.
Again Thanks.

I have had been learning how to use the X70 on the Florida beaches. i have been using the beach mode with tracking on and it seams to do pretty good but forget using the pin-pointer. but up in the dryer sand with some wet base down six inches the pin-pointer seems to work well and at times I had to raid the coil up about 6-8" in the air to use the pin-point and I am thinking that is caused by the density or moisture content down in the sand. I haven't found much but have found a lot of foil, cans and caps but you never know what might be in the next hole. I have a couple more days here then back to Michigan---snow.
Tomorrow i will try the prospecting mode on the beach.
