For All Those Who Cannot.......

Afford the expensive diggers (won't mention brand names), I have found an inexpensive option you're going to love! The digger is made by 'True Temper' and is called the 'Planter's Pal'. It's got it all! The blade is 5" long - razor edge on one side and serrated edge on the other, with a comfort- able hard plastic/hard rubber handle. The cost is $10 bucks!

And........

For those who would like a holster to carry the digger in, you've got to get yourself one of these too! It's a 'Universal Tool Pouch' made by 'Corona' (AC 4510) and both items were purchased at Lowes, in the garden department.

The Coroma Universal Tool Pouch has a 'Limited Lifetime Warranty' and the 'True Temper Planter's Pal' has a 10 year warranty. How's that for $20 bucks?

I bought both and look forward to using them. It's the best value I've seen in a long, long time.

Being that I haven't used the True Temper Planter's Pal yet, I don't know how well it will do in gravel base soils. You may wish to use your Big 'L' for such digging but I'm reasonably sure the PP will do well in most other soils. It should excel in well drained manicured lawns. Obviously the 'Ole saying continues to be appropriate, when it comes to tools for the hobby; 'When In Rome, Do As The Romans Do'. In other words, use the proper tools for the job at hand. There are many people, within the hobby, that simply cannot afford many of the brand name products and a 'Stand-in' is therefore appropriate. Hopefully the PP will handle the job required of it without breakage.
