If you own a LandStar you can disc out small iron in all metal mode,as long as you have decent soil.

the way Ive found for me to do it is...

1 put your machine in disc w/nothing disced out and the GB in preset.
2 using it like this find a clean spot...no readings or beeps.
3 put in AM mode and GB,then drop a nail on the ground...in the clean area.
4 hold the coil about 4" over the nail and press the auto trac button....and w/practice and patience
there should be no signal from the nail depending on the soil cond.
if it doesnt work you may have to turn the GB more counter clockwise.

there may be a better way,or you may feel no need thats up to you.
I am just sharing something Ive learned.

i think i'm going to give your method a try on my Landstar.i've got this old train depot site in my sights as having some good stuff to be found.i've been to the site (the building was torn down many years ago) and done some detecting there but it is extremely trashy with old iron so i'm thinking i have to try something on my Landstar to get rid of the iron sounds as much as possible.

Hopefully, the site can be worked with my Landstar.it is possible, however, that a more powerful and expensive machine is needed for a site like this.
i have isolated the site using old photos and figure there has got to be some good finds to be made if only i can figure out how to deal with the iron.

thanks for the help.

Hey guys, I just regestered a day ago. Lot's of great information. I have a land star and love using it very much here in Texas looking for coins, relic's or what ever I can find. Have found alot of coins and jewelry. I don't have any beaches to detect for jewelry, just lake shore's and I do find alittle jewelry and coins once in awhile. talk to you later!
