For me its not worth the money

Had the Deus a few weeks now and yes its an OK detector, I use my MXT and XT 705 .. With just about the same depth!! Yes its super light and no coil wire to wrap but that's about it!! Just my view so please don't get mad at me ..

Some people just don't like certain detectors. Personally I don't like the F75 LTD. I think it is too noisy and I hate the grunts. It sounded like a pig farm when I used it. But the detector was light, and super deep. A really good detector. Just not for me.

The top of the line Whites models since the Eagle Spectrum including the XLT, DFX, V3i or what ever the number is now. Great detectors. I see the finds that are made with them. But I hate all the adjustments. Some people love the ability to dial a detector in at every site. I always thought I was dialing myself out.

Sorry you are not impressed with the Deus. I slammed it myself on this site last year. I stated my Minelab can do everything the Deus can do and more. Well I found out that no detector can do it all and that the Deus does have a place in my arsenal. Personally I think it is the best iron hunter out there. And the way detecting has caught on fire the last few years (thanks to TV shows) I can no longer afford to bypass the iron infested areas of a site. In fact I found out that these areas are where the action was and where the finds were lost.

Use the detector that makes you happy. After all it is a hobby. The Deus may not be worth the money to you, but just like every other purchase in the world it is worth what people will pay. And I'm glad I spent the money on mine. I could always use more time to hunt and sites to hunt, but that is not the fault of the detector.

Goodmore said it perfectly. Certain detectors just arent for some people and it just really depends on where you hunt. For me, i hunt iron infested sites 95% of the time and the deus is the king for doing that. I was amazed from day one at what I started pulling out of the same sites i had hit multiple times with multiple machines. It didn't hurt that i also liked how compact and light it is along with being wireless. I also had a ctx which i really liked and was my main machine before the deus but a shoulder issue would have me feeling it after a couple hours and there was no way i could keep using it as my main machine. It was pretty darn good in Iron with the 6" coil. I would have really liked to keep it as I feel the two machines together will work for almost every situation and there are times i miss it, i just couldn't justify having it sitting around for those few times i would rather be using it with what is costs. I am now on the hunt for a used etrac for those occasions.
There are many good machines out there, it's just finding the ones that suit you, I have had quite a few that I didnt gel with myself..

I have sold 3 of my other detectors, (MXT,GBPro,Vaquero) after I learned to use the Deus, IMO it does a better job and is lighter. Plus I dont have to buy batteries and it is easily converted to a water hunter. It replaced 3 other detectors and was cheaper, sold the others for more than enough to pay for the Deus.

I think the term "not worth the money" is a bit harsh after using it for a few weeks. You have to get familiar with it to get your money's worth. The 5 year warranty alone makes it worth the money in my opinion. That peace of mind knowing I won't have any other out of pocket expenses for 5 years is priceless

A few weeks of owning it isn't long enough. A few weeks worth of hunting hours, then you can make an accurate judgement.

If you haven't read Andy Sabisch's XP handbook, then you'll never know the full potential of this detector. I mean read it with a highlighter and memorize it.

You have to learn this machine and be a good enough hunter to know how to hunt for relics in iron. Nothing can really compair to this machine with the programs and the updates and the future of what it can do while it is still being developed with updates

I think a lot of people expect the Deus to be like the CTX. With the CTX and E-Trac you hunt by sound but then use visual display information to determine is it is worth recovery, where with the Deus, it is all about proper adjustment/program and the sound. You can have the E-Trac/CTX maladjusted and still do fairly well by using the VDI to decide to recover or not. With the Deus you set it up properly and don't even need a display. You will know when/if to recover based on the sound. Because of this the Deus does take a bit more understanding to properly set it up for the conditions you're hunting, but you don't need to spend any time looking at the display to determine if you think you should recover or not.

Both great machines just different in the way you use them.

XP swapped out my WS5 phones that were a "little off" and I opted for the WS4s with the adapter so I can try a variety of headphones to begin experiencing the "great" tones on the Deus , so I hope you're right Southwind. I've not enough time on the new tunes yet to learn the dialect and the etrac still sounds worlds better and more discriptive. There actually seems to be more of a mixing of tones in the 4 and 5 tone mode than in full tone which surprises me.
At this point I can easily the OPs perspective as to the value/cost issue but in these days of flagship detectors it's really not that expensive.
For me , it will certainly serve the purpose of filling the niche of a 75ltd. Even though the Deus doesn't swing quite as easily , the tones are far superior to that beast and it's versatility ads the element of continuos expansion and exploration which helps keep detecting interesting.

ZIP, if you haven't unloaded the Deus yet, give it a little time before you do. Take it to areas you think you have hunted out.
When I first got mine, I thought I made a huge mistake. Then I unearthed 4 silver dimes from a school that has been pounded by me as well as others through the years.
Since then I've learned to set it up better and unearthed 40-50 silver dimes and a couple quarters from that school, not to mention multiple silver rings and one gold.
All in an area I pounded with 3 other detectors. One was a Minelab Sovereign.
Too bad you didn't get the 11" coil, it does better on depth but the 9" is really good for it's size and hugely comparable to other high end detectors with 10" coils.
With the right settings, it kicked the Sovereign's butt in my 5 yr. old coin garden.
