For those with chronic pain....

Since December, I have struggled with constant back pain, hip pain, leg and knee pain...really pain everywhere. I have forced myself to go to work, clean house, etc., but life has been miserable. My Dr has tested for various things and other than a known thyroid condition, everything was okay. He started talking fibromyalgia and for those of you who know anything about this disease, that is a depressing diagnosis. He was ready to prescribe medication, but I refuse to pump my body full of crap, so I decided my plight in life would be chronic pain. A month or so ago, we got a book in the library called "The Wheat Belly". The book discusses the modification of the wheat we now eat and what it does to our bodies. Without becoming too technical, our wheat (and corn) is now so genetically modified to promote higher yields and disease resistance, our bodies are at a loss as to how to process it. I am not a health nut, don't take herbal medicines and don't jump on bandwagons, but I believe there is something to this. For the last six days, I have been following a wheat-free diet as much as possible and each day my pain has been less. Today, I have little to no pain for the first time since December 1st of last year. It seems the wheat is quite possible the source of the chronic inflammatory state we are all in...allergies, inflammation in vessels (causing heart disease and high blood pressure) and joint issues. A friend has been on this program for over a month and has had similar results. Just thought I would pass this info on....my success may end tomorrow, but it seems to be worth a shot to try.

Liz, Oh my gosh! I've been experiencing similar pain in similar places. Several months ago, my regular doctor told me to cut down on wheat because the glutton was doing a number on me. I took his advice to heart but didn't think too much about things other than wheat. Lately the pain has been unbelievable! As a matter of fact, I went to the hospital yesterday with extreme chest, back, and hip pain thinking it was related to my recent heart surgery. I really hadn't given wheat much thought, for some time, and therefore hadn't considered that. I'll be especially watchful of my wheat and corn intake for the next few months to see if anything changes. Thank you so much for posting this and God bless you and yours.

Hey Liz. Al does most of our shopping at "Earthfare" (ORGANIC FOOD CLICK HERE) and I made this switch about 4 years ago. I used to feel so tired, cranky and just plain blah all the time. When we started eating organic, I noticed a HUGE improvement. We get ALL of our meats, chicken, fruits and vegetables which is all USDA and all natural. It IS more expensive, but after some family financial adjustments we don't notice a difference any more. I don't know if you have any all natural food stores near you, but I have to say for being almost 42 I feel physically great!

God Bless Liz and congratulations on being wheat free for almost a week! Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing.

You seem to be describing he pain my wife endures. I have just printed out a copy of your post and she will be reading it in a minutes time.

Thanks for the very interesting post Liz.

Thanks, Greg! We do not, unfortunately, have access to many organic foods. Kroger is our main source....A Whole Foods would be our next best option, but is over 71 miles away. I do buy organic when I can and we garden organically as well. So far, I do not feel deprived in any way, but I have not eliminated corn. That would be a struggle I'm sure. Fritos Scoops are REALLY, REALLY my friend right now! Lol. Tonight we had steamed, buttered broccoli, roasted red potatoes with garlic and chicken breast sauteed with garlic, portobello mushrooms and jack cheese. It was yummy and no one missed the bread (or at least they didn't admit to it...haha!). I am also thinking of making a few other changes like adding Chia seeds to our diet, using only olive and non-refined coconut oils and adding curcumin pills to our daily multi-vitamin. All of these things were cleared today by our pharmacist. The curcumin is a compound found in tumeric and has been proven to be highly anti-inflammatory.

We'll see how all this goes, but I really believe it can't hurt anything! Thanks for the encouragement!

I hate to hear your wife suffers with this as well. May we all find renewed health and pain-free days! Let me know if she decides to give this a try....maybe we can bounce recipes/ideas off each other.

Osteoarthritis is very painful in neck, hips, back, arms and legs...so not sure it is from eating wheat products but most likely is a part of it and maybe has caused my Osteoarthritis, too! We had good food on the farm, but now since the 70's, it seems as though everything is killing us in one way or the other! My financial status keeps me from buying many foods, but I sure hope to buy the Organic Foods and Vegies to help build my immune system....not sure all organic foods are organic....The Government and FDA don't want us buying Vitamins and etc. that really would help us, as if they want to keep us buying chemical meds that do harm us in many ways...destroying us while trying to heal us! I hope Tami can understand and use your information, too! We both hurt so much and hard to do anything without feeling tired, run down and trouble sleeping to get enough rest for starting a new day with energy that seems to escape us and many others! Thanks again! :clapping: Ma
