Here's something I always say. Never trust your weather man. NEVER! Went to bed and the last report I heard said rain all day today. Woke up and that had changed to chance of rain 30%, cloudy, warm and muggy. The sun is shining now. I was wanting to hunt (that is almost always the case) so I went back to the same park I hit Wednesday. I dug a lot of iffy signals looking for silver and was rewarded with two oldish and very deep wheats. No silver. Also dug a junk Avon ring, a Chinese Cash Coin copy (Why copy something you could buy for about 50 cents?), a huge fishing hook, two keys. Also a whole lot of clad but fewer coins per hour than normal because I was digging those deep signals. You could probably guess I got a lot of old iron nails. The silver is there and I'll get lucky one of these days.

Nothing much today, Don. Just dirty old money. How I love it!

Chris

Supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Getting near another major milestone. Maybe I'll dig out my rain gear, which means it will be sunny for sure!

Chris, re your question on the copy of Chinese cash coins..I've found a few and wondered exactly as you did, "why bother?". Then I found three tied together with some fine red string (or thread). Looked it up on the net and found that the three "coins" tied together constitute a charm, sometimes "good luck". I guess the ones I've found by themselves are where the string has rotted and the coins have separated. Boy oh boy! I thought you were finding a lot of coins now....what's it going to be like when you find three coins together and start having good luck. HH Sapper.

It might look nice in the photo, but it looks like crap in person. Missing all stones and a lot of the plating. I keep repeating a ring is a ring but I don't believe it. (37 junk rings so far in 2009, 11 silver, 2 gold, 1 silver and gold mixed.)

I got a real one last year and was very pleased with it. Might not be valuable but it sure was old. My oldest coin by a long way. You read stories about detectorists finding pots or bowls filled with them hidden in walls. I guess a lot of immigrants brought them over in quantity. I think I even saw a cache of them in one of Charles Garretts movies filmed down in Mexico. I assumed this was from a bracelet and looked for the rest but it was all by itself.

If you look on Ebay you'll see you can buy pounds of them for 30 or 40 bucks.

Thanks for the information, by the way. I used to babysit for a Chinese family (a thousand years ago) and on holidays they always remembered me with one of those red, Chinese, good luck envelopes and a little cash. They said that was a tradition in China and that the amount of money was usually just a token. They always gave me a five spot which was a lot of money back then, at least to me. They never gave me any Chinese money, though. I think they had fled from the Cultural Revolution so they didn't leave with much. Great folks!

Damn fine pile ya' got there my man!

The other day when I went out and got my five dollars worth of cald in an hour+ :clsoedeyes:I also had my heart tested...yes a heart test...it went pitter patter way to hard...I had a good hit at 3 inches next to the concession stand and I carefully dug down used the Propointer to get close and started to brush the dirt away and what do I see? A shiney clear stone staring back at me. That is when my heart started pounding very hard! That is till I dug the rest of it up...the rest of the ring was all rust!!!!!:veryangry: Man so close...My time is coming I can feel it. Between that old swimming hole and the park I am bound and determined to find my first gold!

Again nice collection!

Don

I wish I could average $5/hour. Some days I do but most I don't. Pics, post pics!

Chris

Gold will come when you least expect it.

I will start posting some of my better finds I promise.

Of course that German pin has been the best find I have had in awhile so...

I was going to detect on Fathers Day at the beach wear gold and silver coins have been found but the heat index is to be in the danger zone so I am not pushing it! 110 heat index can hit fast with no warning.
