There is a Jr. hi school nearby I have always wanted to coin shoot but the grounds appeared to be completely fenced in.
I went there yesterday to really give it a inspection and found that there actually were small openings in the fence for foot traffic.
What really disturbed me though was that standing water was covering 75 percent of the grass areas.
Found many coins in the dryer areas but when I would cut a plug I could see that just a few inches down was a solid layer of heavy blue clay. Almost looked like clay used in art class.
In my little part of the world we have rain 11 months of the year. The third week of August is pretty much the only dry season we have. The winter rains arrive with the month of September.
Found 2.41 in the small area I could hunt along with two pieces of junk jewelry so the area has potential.
Long, wet winters with grey skies day after day.....after day.
Rain I can deal with...but standing water is just a sloppy, muddy way to hunt and be neat about it.
At least I have a new place to check out in August.
