Found a John Tyler dollar coin

Went to a volley court with 9 courts in it. Found a buttload of quarters and a coin I never seen. A 2009 John Tyler gold color coin, a smiggin bigger than a quarter. Neat! Never seen one before. Rubbed a little Ajax on it and it shined right up. Just as a hint, I live in a big city. I thought why not try bus stops. Man did that pay off. Took home lots of pocket change. People reach into pockets to get coins for the bus ride and drop these in the grass. Look under trees by bus stops. They wait there in the shade for the buss and thats where most were found. Happy swinging...

Great detecting but be careful using "Ajax" on the tokens, etc. That's a strong cleaner and most tokens, coins, etc. only need a good cleaning with a soft toothbrush. Even though Ajax is a mild astringent, it still scratches. NEVER clean a silver coin with a brush, just use soap and water. HH, Nancy

I cleaned my coins through the end of April and I have 2 Sacajawea, 2 George Washington, 2 James Buchanan, 1 Abe Lincoln and 1 James Madison. These have come from playgrounds, a park lawn, and a parking strip. I'm not in a good area to get to the bus and train stops, but will hit those in the summer months. The transit trains around here gave dollar coins in change, so those are the stop areas i like to key on in good weather.

I trust you'll find more, but use some caution in coin cleaning. It's no big deal on these dollars that dirty up so easily, but be careful with any silver or better collectible coin as Nancy suggested. Now, if we could just get them to change our money to coins, that would be great! The $2 Aussie coin in a perfect size and shape, and sounds off cleanly. Let's not use junk metal like some other northern countries do.

The Aussie $2 coin is especially an ideal size (as it sounds like you have one in your possession).Being smaller, they aren't heard well by those who drop them and also there smaller size make them distinct from aluminium screw caps that also show up in the same range. Our $1 coins are great too, but it seems universal that all Aussie detectorist only find only 1 $1 coin to approx 4 $2 coins. It's all to do with their larger size. They sound like a coin when they are dropped; they are easier to see lying on the ground and they are a lot harder to tell them apart from a screw cap.
I ve known of of about 4 or five detectorist over here that detect for these coins for a job. (pretty hard to do though) That said, I have found (especially when I get down to large cities like Sydney) sites where I have pulled up over a $100 from.
Yep; got to love those coins! Hopefully you guys will get them one day and that they are made similar to Aussie or European coins and not the hard to detect Canadian loonie ande toonie coins.
