Found an item for a citizen!

I went to a nearby ball field that is in the process of getting some artificial turf, so I figured I should scan the ground before everything is wiped out. The park has been there since my mom was young and I have only tried detecting it once. I didn't find anything but clad so I had written it off. Now I have to go back ASAP, since I found 5.80 in clad and 4 wheats, there could be some silver hiding in there. As for the recovery, a truck pulled up and the driver asked if I would help find a hammer that got buried under gravel the previous day. I said sure and followed him over to the spot. I tried a wide open screen to see the big iron head, and the first signal was nothing (too close to a metal fence). So he got out a similar hammer and I did a test swing to see what it registered. This was the key! The next signal matched what the test signal was, and sure enough, the hammer was right there under 8 inches of gravel and black fabric! I finally got to do a recovery!! Too bad it wasn't a ring, maybe next time! Sure was nice to get out, I've had to stay home and help with the new baby girl at home. Hope you all got out to swing the coil.

A lot of times those favors for citizens pay off big time. I'd bet you're now welcome at any site that crew is working!

Some tools people really like, I had a old hammer I called "Big Red" and I wouldn't have got rid of it for anything.

Nice job on finding the hammer for a very grateful worker I presume. It is always a great day when I am able to help someone find something they lost. I enjoy doing something that helps others and also builds good will for the hobby. Congratulations on the baby girl. I have small kids at home, so I don't get a chance to get out much right now, but I would not trade time spent with family for anything in the world. I know there will be more time to detect later. I hope you get a chance to get out soon and have a great next hunt.

Yes, I take my 4 year old son out detecting with me, he likes to grab the coins out of the hole and put them in my pouch. Can't wait til he's bigger and can swing his own coil along with me!
