My neighbor knew I had a metal detector from seeing me come and go with it over the years, and about four months ago asked me if I would help one of her friends find a lost ring in her back yard. I told her I would as soon as the weather started cooperating. Today we went to the yard, and I gave it a shot. It was a large yard, behind a fairly new house, so no trees to work around etc, and surprisingly quiet ground. I was using the SE Pro, and set the power down to 15, since I was looking for something lost only two years ago, and didn't want to fool with the "deepies". The story was, she was in the back yard by the porch throwing a toy to the dog when it came off. I set the iron mask to 22, hit the noise cancel, and went to walking a grid. After covering an area about 60' square I decided, since she is 75 years old she probably didn't send it flying near that distance, and I started working the other side of the porch, putting me behind where she thought she was standing. The first pass I hit a really nice repeatable signal, that was probably RIGHT UNDER MY FEET when I first started the machine. It was the 14K gold with diamonds wedding band. Just for grins before I dug I tried Andy's gold program I keep as one of my preset discrimination patterns, and it nailed it. On the smartfind screen it was right below where a nickel hits. They were thrilled and couldn't believe I could find it. She didn't even bother getting the dirt off of it before putting it back on... HH Joe
