Found silver after work yesterday

JT in Virginia

New member
I went to my favorite spot yesterday after work for a quick hunt before it got dark. I had about an hour or so before it got dark so I hunted a small area that was just uncovered by the bulldozers. This spot was previously under a concrete driveway. I wasn

Wow, what a find!!!. Just goes to show that stuff can be lost and later paved over by concrete, just waiting for the bulldozers to tear it up so the detector guys can find the loot. Beautiful coin. Marc Trainor.

That's a beautiful looking Barber Half. I think you are on the right track with your settings too. Of course if you can run it up to 16 or 17 and stay stable, by all means do so. But you will still get KILLER depth at 15 and below if that's what it takes to run it in a particular area.

It's been a long time since I found as nice a looking half dollar as that one. "Where there's SMOKE, there's FIRE!" Go hit that spot hard and get the rest!

Hi JT, wow that is a wonderful find! I'm curious if it was very deep or just laying in the loose dirt? The Quattro is quite a deep seeking machine no doubt but it is nice when you get a little help from the local bulldozer too haha! Ok God Bless JT.

I loved the photos JT, it brings me right to the very spot, as if I'm detecting there! That's a nice silver coin you found. Glad you got it out before they bulldozed it all!

Yea, you got in and got out, just in the nick of time on that one. I know what you mean, about that window of opportunity. They dug up a sidewalk in a pretty old area, and I was gonna go there at night but I chickened out and within days, it was covered up by new sidewalk and grass. It's a real shame to see that happen, knowing there's probably some old coins and stuff burried again by the new sidewalk or construction, or whatever. Makes a fella want to cry sometimes.:(:|

hi nice find :thumbup:i found a little coin (i think its a coin) it has llama or horse ? on the back it has 1/4 date is 1843 coin look silver any help would be nice:clapping::stars:

You know what JT? The next time you think your family thinks your weird about doing this detector thing, just think about those people that dress up weird, put paint on themselves, spend a ton of money for season tickets, and go to a football game and scream their brains out and spill beer on the people below them. Now tell me what's weird?, and don't get me wrong, I'm not putting down football fans out having fun, I'm just saying, as long as we're not hurting anyone, who the heck cares, and "weird" is just a relative thing, in my eyes.
The other thing I wanted to say is I know I'm not the only one who can relate to you on that profound thought and feeling about how that guy felt that lost the coin. I've felt the same thing, and I know others have, and to me it's a wonderful, interesting and thought provoking thing to find something that old, and then start thinking about what in the heck that situation was, way back then, what were the people doing, at the time, etc. I'm glad you shared those feelings, and I think it shows a lot of caring on your part to be that concerned about the guy who lost it. I totally agree with you. That was more money back then than it is today, and the guy or gal who lost it, we're probably pretty sad about it. Marc.

Oh, and by the way, JT, the next time someone asks you: "Do you ever find anything good with THAT THING, you can turn to them and say, yea, or even better, carry it with you and "whip it out" and show them. That ought to drop their drawers pretty good!!!
