Found the problem with my Se Pro today....

I had my Pro coil do the same thing as yours did Marc, sent it in for R or R to Minelab.
Got a call about a week later saying the coil was definately bad and that they did
not repair them...sorry. They shipped it back and I had to buy a new one....
Just my FYI to you. GL Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Was the coil still under warranty? If so they should replace it no charge. They replaced mine no problems in record time see my post in this thread about my experience.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply, I did buy my detector new and therefore hope they will take care of me. I will definitely keep you posted.

Bell-Two, I have cleaned under my cover/bottom of coil after every use. I also have those cracks all over my coil as yours did. The bottom of my coil is completely covered in these micro-cracks, and I mean completely covered. I also don't know about "coil warranty." I bought my Se Pro just over a year and a half ago from Dixie Detectors and so Minelab couldn't give me a solid answer if this would/could be warrantied. As I said, we are at a "send it in and let's see" point right now. Ill Keep you all posted what Minelab says. I'd be surprised if they didn't help me once they see my machine, which looks like it just came off the assembly line 5 minutes ago. Take care and have a great weekend guys. -Marc

Warranty had run out about a month prior to the coil going bad.....and Minelab repair/customer service wouldn't budge. I should have done some checking earlier, but I just thought I was getting into some ground that was "active". It didn't do it all the time, but when it finally went, it was gone. Hi Dave, I live in Minneapolis but will be detecting all weekend in Pine River and on the Whitefish chain. Although you are a bit far from me, it would be great to meet you and hunt a few spots together sometime (even this weekend if you don't have plans and feel like camping).
Dew, I completely agree with you. I really don't understand Minelab's constant giveaways and then I hear so many stories of them not taking care of a customer. I was thinking about getting either an E-trac or a V3i. The outcome of my situation will make that decision for me. Its really ridiculous that it comes down to a $200 item, which isn't such a big deal. The cost to them is very low I'm sure. Well they haven't told me that they won't cover it so I can't say anything negative at this point, but I have been told by them that they "usually don't." We are currently at a "send it in and we will see" point. I also agree with your comment when you say that the small coil might just be masking the problem. I will send in my entire detector next week, thats probably the best idea. Thanks for your continued input guys and I wish you a happy 4th of July weekend. -Marc

Would be fun to meet up and hunt somewhere. Won't be this weekend though....holiday plans are set in stone. Besides, I'm on call 24/7 with my job so I would need to plan in advance for a road trip. Maybe sometime before the season is over.

i had the exact same problem and a switch to a sef did make it seam to be fixed and i also used a x5 but it wasnt the coil that was bad it is somthing with the board inside the unit goto a really trashy area and try it if it still stays consistant the your probly right it was the coil my machine would run great with the smaller coil but when i got into some trash it would lock up or become eratic after 30 or fourty minutes it like tre processer is heating up or somthing it been in once and is going back again with a vid of it acting up i have to turn the sence down to 6 to get it to not lock up the cross hairs for 10 secound at a time
