I found this stuff today on the farm. I think it's a mixture of CW and 1903 Army relics.
Is this a rosette? I may be hallucinating but I may see what looks like a US on it, but it's not raised. <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> Can anyone ID?

Here is the reverse.

Here is a couple of bullets, a 69 drop. And a pistol bullet I think, anyone know for sure?

I think this is a post CW eagle button, am I right?

:close up: These are real light weight, like aluminum. Probable 1903 army somethings?
<img src="http://www.findmall.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10610/cw relics 008.jpg" alt="" />
:close up: I think this is a brass pipe end cap 1 1/4", but is it period?
<img src="http://www.findmall.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10610/cw relics 009.jpg" alt="" />
Thanks for looking, I hope someone will help figure these out. I'm starting to get a nice collection going. I love this hobby! <img src="/metal/html/tongue.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":b">

Hi Mike, I live south of Louisville near Ft. Knox. Are you from Owensboro?

You have a pistol bullet; looks like a Colt Army (.44). Rosette appears period, especially if it has lead under the iron back. It will feel heavy for its size. It's not military issue, but many civilian styles were used by the South. Button appears period. Other small pieces are unknown other than the two brass items that look like they are from old cigarette lighters (flint covers). They are turn of the century. Thanks David. The rosette does feel and appear to have lead in it. When you said "used by the South" did you mean CSA exclusively? Because I doubt many rebs were right here where I hunt. The US had control of this area. The 1st Wisc. was here for 3 weeks in 1861.
I have a hard time figuring out what is period and not because our entire farm was used in 1903-1904 for training, and relics are all mish-mashed together. I found a fired 1903 Springfield round about 5 ft. from a dropped 69. On top of that it was farmed heavily post 1904-present. Keeps me guessing!
I've found about 5 of those "flint covers" and they are all the same. I think they are from the 1903 era and I have looked at countless antique lighters and can find none matching. Could they have come off a smoke grenade or some kinda military hardware?
That 44 cal pistol bullet is fired and is the only one I've found. I have found a few 38 cal. round balls and a couple of 2 ring 38's. One more quick question about the button, I though period buttons had the eagle's neck curved, this one appears straight up. Is that design used on period buttons too?
I tell ya the plow really mixes stuff up. I found an old spark plug close to a Federal spur <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

The Confederacy used many civilian items throughout the war out of necessity. KY Confederates were scattered throughout the State in the early war days, but civilians would have used items until they broke or couldn't be repaired. US troops may have used civilian items until Gov't supplies could be received, but this was not the norm. WW I relics are tough to find, so if you find any WW I US items, hang on to them. As for your button, there were a great many designs to the US Eagle. Even the Southern Army wore them. One piece buttons are easier to date than the two piece. The backmark is a key factor. The general service button Eagle changed design (only slightly)during the Indian Wars era, but the backmark style is the best way to ID. Can't help much with the lighter.
