Igot to hunt a couple empty lots that the hospital bought and tore down the homes. This area sees a lot of foot traffic as people cut through to get to the University. The ground I was detecting has a lot of iron in it but the new coil and the Explorer handled it very well. The soil was very dry and the temperature was 72. My first signal was what I thought was going to be a quarter but from about 3 inches deep came a nice silver ring. A nice way to start a hunt! I dug a few wheats and some newer pennys which were all averaging around 4 to five inches deep. The signal was loud enough on these coins at from this depth. I did air test the coil when I first received it and for what its worth, I was getting 8 inches on a quarter. I headed over to a big oak that was still standing near the street and receive an iron and coin signal in digital mode. I was running in -10 iron mask. When I dug down about 4 inches I found a chunk of iron. After rechecking the hole I received the 00-29 signal. Another 2 inches was the gleam of silver, a 1929 Standing Liberty Quarter. My first one of the season. I managed to find a lot of "what is its" and a 1928 mercury dime. I got pretty excited when I dug a gold coin, the only problem it was a 20 cent Euro! The deepest find I made was an antique handle from whatever that came out of it's grave from almost 10 inches. The little 4x7 DD is going to make a nice addition to your arsenal when it becomes available.
I almost forgot to add that the 4x7 is great at seperation, sensitivity and pinpointing. It pinpoints right at the front or back of the coil when you let the signal drop off. I didn't even use the pinpoint button. I didn't show in the photo some of the BB size pieces of aluminum that read in the penny/dime range that I dug from up to 6 inches deep! This coil is sensitive to small high conductive items! I can tell from a few hours of use that this will be my main coil for hunting trashy areas. Good hunting to all.
