From my personal point of view the BCS national championship game was kind of boring...........

Understand that I didn't have a dog in that fight as I am a Gators fan. I was pulling for 'Bama as they beat us and I wanted the SEC to be well represented. I started losing interest about the 3rd qtr and started channel-surfing when neither QB could complete a pass. It was very unfortunate for Texas to lose McCoy during their first offensive possession but I felt that it was a fair hit/play and "things" happen. What I wasn't expecting was the lack of a passing game from either team. With McCoy out, back-up Texas QB Garret Gilbert did more than an admirable job having been thrust into the spotlight in the game of the year and maybe his life. But with Gilbert completing only 15 of his 40 pass attempts for 186 yds and 4 int's, 122 of those yards going to Shipley, I was nearly lulled to sleep. Alabama's Greg McElroy was even worse if that's possible. He completed only 6 out of 11 attempts for 58 whopping yards. Thank goodness for 'Bama that they had Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, whom both ran for over 100yds, or this game would have really been a snoozer. The match-up reminded me of those 70's football games played between Oklahoma and Nebraska when the play book only contained 4 plays....... Sweep left, sweep right, wishbone up the middle, punt. Both coaches made bonehead calls ; "Bama's fake punt for an interception deep in their own territory to start the game and Texas' time out with 15 seconds to go to half time only to come out and have a Shovel pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown by a 300lb defensive lineman. What the heck was Coach Brown thinking? Anyway, to complete my thoughts, this is where I was heading and I'm sure this will spur lots of debate that will be fun. All I ask is don't be a "Homer" and give the facts in which you believe will either help me state my case or argue against it..................

The Florida Gators stomp a mud hole in the #3 ranked team in the nation in the Sugar Bowl and the best they can do is #3 ? Tim Tebow played the game of his college career completing 31 of 35 passes for 478 yards (more than TWICE what both QB's passed for in the BCS title game) and no Int's. They hang 51 points on the Bearcats and then the Gators pull Tebow with over 6 minutes to go in the game and put in Sophomore QB and heir the throne, John Brantley to mop up. I believe that we left 14 pts. on the field because of that and also because Meyer didn't want to add further embarrassment to the situation. Florida's defense is right up there in ranking with both Alabama and Texas. I understand that Fla. didn't play well (they stunk) against Alabama in the SEC Championship game but I felt that they deserved better than a #3 final ranking. I understand that #2 isn't that much better than #3 (2nd being the first loser) but I also felt that if Florida had been given another chance, either against 'Bama or Texas, they would have played a much better game. I felt Texas should have fallen to #3 or even #4 behind Boise State but that's what makes polls fun, I guess. Any way, I'm looking forward to y'alls perspective and seeing who agrees or disagrees. Remember, try to put your loyalties aside.

Sincerely,

if you tune out like you did Rick because your Mighty Gators where no where to be found in the big game ;)

I told you earlier didn't I Rick  , first off your number one ranked team at the time ......

The Mighty Gators, lost to the number two ranked team in the country at the time, Alabama, it wasn't even close  which meant your number one ranked Gators dropped as they should have

Two, the new number one ranked team, Alabama, just got by the new number two ranked team Texas in the end, ((( Barely got by them and Texas had a true freshmen at quarter back )))

That is what the BCS WAS LOOKING AT when they drop those mighty Gators to third in the nation and I am not even sure they earn that spot with one loss, maybe Boise was a better fit  , I kinda think so but we will never know because the smaller schools never get a chance at the big dance because they are not money drawer's, to bad, the BCS says they are weak, well lets see how weak they are in a playoff system that does not favor the power house schools but leaves the championship open to all, kinda like the US Hockey Team way back in 1980!

I still don't believe that a team that loses in the national championship game should automatically be granted the #2 spot. I agree that it would probably have been different if McCoy hadn't been knocked out but that's why they play the game. Both teams struggled terribly at QB and Alabama should have walked all over them when Texas HAD to play a freshman QB. Alabama's QB was just as dismal and if it hadn't been for the running game they would have absolutely lost.

I didn't tune out as you suggested as I am a true football fan and I believe that the Stats I provided prove my points even if the Gators were not in the hunt. When the #3 team gets totally steam rolled ( and they also had a Heisman trophy candidate QB until he broke his arm) and have 51 points hung on them in only 50 minutes speaks to the Gators true offensive prowess. The defense shut down QB Tony Pike until he was running for his life on every snap. That's not how a #3 team should have to play. Everyone has a bad game and unfortunately for us it came against Alabama. Bama almost got beat by Auburn and Texas almost met their Waterloo at Nebraska. Name another Bowl team/game in which an offense had better totals than the Gators against such a "worthy" adversary?

Gators should be granted the third spot just because they lost to the number two team at the time that is now the number one team ;)

Told ya Rick, maybe this BCS THING WORKS and a playoff system can't
