Frozen chips and chasing Q's

Got up early and read all the posts..it was 18 degrees, I doubled up on the socks, pants, and shirts. Went and hit some of my usual totters...the chip lots are frozen solid no good unless its right on the surface. The gravel ones are workable, forget about the sod, frozen up too, no snow here. The last coin I found was a Q...eye find, from 20 feet away as the sun got through the clouds and lit it right up! got 42p's, 4n's, 7d's and the one Q..two junk rings, and a silver looking necklace, (no stamp, think its a junker too)..I've been running 53 sens, -5 thresh, 1 disc, and DP tones on the F70 with the 11"dd...This is a really good totlot set up! I hit some deep 5" p's in the gravel, so I was confident in it finding something good. Also, you can tell the difference between a pencil end and a nickle. Gravel totters have a lot of hotrocks and too high of a sens will drive a fellow crazy. It was a great time to be out swinging coil this late in the year, and the rings are saying "The gloves are coming off" .... tomorrow, I'll hit some more gravel lots. Hope everybody is well, and maybe getting out a little.

I was'nt as brave as you today mudpuppy. Looks like a good clad haul. I may put the small coil on the f2 and go over the tot lots in the morning. I am sure they will be cleaned out pretty good (alot of metal detectors around here) but I may get lucky with the small coil.

Glad to see you are still getting out, mud. I give you a huge batch of credit for making the effort under quite a bit less then ideal hunting conditions. HH jim tn

Thanks guys, you know, its not too bad hitting totters in the cold...you are only there for 20 minutes tops, and then back in the truck and on to the next, so its really just an excersize in drinking coffee and listening to the radio mostly...once the sledding hills get some snow, now that is a challenge! It takes a lot longer to hit them, and its always very early before sunup.
