Full size head phones vs earbuds.

Hey, I've been wondering if Id enjoy it out there in the summer heat more if I tried the little earbuds I got with my windows phone and never used.
I have 3 types of head phones. 1- is the light wieght sony with the 2" foam pad over the ears.

2- I use a full size pair that allow me to hear around me but are supposedly sensitive. Their made by Noise Polution. Really only for indoor DJ stuff I guess. They work well but are big.
3- Then there is the earbuds I've never tried. I was going to take the big phones and buds out on a target and test them. Then I thought I've got all my friends right here, let me see if anyone else has pondered this.

The big question : Do you think there would be any audio lost (anything that matters) if I went from the full size head phones down to ear buds?

For all the longer it takes I would try all three of your options and see what you like the best.

It's debatable if any audio would be lost using ear buds but I would expect instead of audio being lost, your audio may be fine but lighter sounds could be drowned out by ambient sounds around you like a car passing by or someone cutting grass off in t he distance.

Dog,
The last couple of years I have only used ear buds. Had a pair of wireless, but lost them.
Got tired of the headphones either slipping forward when I bent to retrieve or just getting too hot.
I have a badge clip that I clip the cord to my collar, it helps get it out of the way.
Some folks don't like ear buds, but I haven't noticed any loss and really like the lighter weight. I think you'll like them.

I'm with mapper, you are the only one that can say which head phones you like the best in the summer heat.

Thanks guys, your right I've got to try em.
And Bill said it right too- its not just the heat but the big one slip when I bend over and get very annoying. How they feel of coarse I could only know. But the big question was: Would I lose any audio that matters. You guys answerd that as well. Thanks

I did take a little time this afternoon and found the ear buds. Laid out the 705 and digger coil and fired it up. Had 2 pairs of buds. Got a couple clad dimes and a copper lincoln and one zincer. Had a little test. One is clear and sharp. In fact they impressed me some! One pair is pure cwap.
They gave about 50% of the volume and were flat and muffled.
So I have a pair of buds that work well and even come with a little clip to attach it to your shirt or collar. Thanks for helping. Hope to field test tommorow. All I need is a decent site to hunt and that's the hardest part of this hobby.

The ear buds from my iPhone give better sound than the Koss headphones I have. I rarely use the Koss' anymore and I like that I can hear the outside world around me.

I find that isolation-style earbuds transmit considerably more vibration and low-frequency noise when I'm out detecting. I like the old-style earbuds with the little foam slip covers best, because they are lightweight, don't interfere with a hat (a full-brimmed hat, not a cap) like an over-the-ear set does, and because they don't block nearly as much outside noise as the rubberized earbuds; I generally like to be able to hear what is going on around me. It's also easier to hear my Pinpointer with the foam-style buds, compared to the rubberized plugs.

A cord is a pain, period. I don't know how many times during a given hunt the cord snags on a bush, the detector tips on its side or slides a bit when I'm kneeling down, or I stand up while the detector is beside me without thinking about it, and the earphones get jerked askew or out of my ears. I tried putting together a cheap-o wireless bluetooth solution -- my budget is limited at the moment -- with a pair of wireless sports earbuds and a bluetooth transmitter from China, via eBay. For under $20 combined, it works for music, but there's enough delay that it becomes woefully inadequate for detecting. I might try with a simpler FM set (probably about $12 for transmitter + phones); it doesn't need to convert to/from digital at each end, but there may be more interference.

I agree with Venner. Get the ear buds that just rest in your ears and you'll have a great compromise between hearing the outside world and hearing your detector. I hear a better quality threshold tone (tone 10 level 5) with my iPhone ear buds than I do with the Koss'.

The cord is a pain and I prefer the "springy" cord on the Koss' but it can be fixed by wiring up your own extension cord.

Cheers
