Fun day today. Got a first...

Dan Clark from the forum came over in my neck of the woods for some detecting today. Our original site to detect was a bust so we hit some old spots of mine. We didn't get much quantity but we both found some quality coins.
This coin is a first for me. A fish scale. Size of our half dime. Registered like an Indian head penny.

I think the dry ground has really helped bring up some signals. Had a fun time today. Jim

Great finds Jim. It's nice to know someone in Michigan is finding Pre 1900 coins.
Good on you.
Tom

The 1868 came out ugly, the 65 was better but still not very nice. Used the glass to try to find a D on the 16 merc but it just isn't going to be. At least I have the 1886 Canadian quarter. Thanks for a great day.
Dan

Jim,
In the 2005 red book the 1867 list as:
9,821.000 minted
g-4=$45 vg-8=$50 f-12=$75 vf-20=$125 ef-40=$200 au-50=$250 ms-60=$250 ms-63=$325 pf-63=$450
Your picture of it looks like it's 60 to 63
Nice find
Jim pa

That 1867 indian is probably one of the nicest ones you will ever find - scarce date, great condition, you'll remember finding that one for a long time - nice!

And that '67 indian must have been in excellent soil.
She's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

..that 68 looked to be in great condition. I love that old Canadian Quarter ya nabbed. Never seen one in person that old. Cool stuff. It was a fun day.

..I would probably grade it more like a VF-20 though. What do I know? Thanks again.

My detecting friend found a 1865 and a 1868. I then found the 1867. Fun stuff. Love old home sites.

..one of those signals will produce a fishscale some day soon.
The 67 was at one of our oldest home sites in the area. Nice dark soil. Fun stuff.
