G2 and EMI concerns?

Really need some feedback on the G2 and EMI. I love my Omega , but about half of all the sites I hit I experience bad EMI....even if the power lines are VERY far away. I understand that all the new detectors from First Texas (Fisher F series, F75, Tek Omega, Gamma)have problems with this due to NOT having proper shielding. I am seriously considering a G2 as my main relic hunting machine, but if it is affected by EMI like my Omega then I probabely won't. Bill

The G2 is less prone to problems from EMI than just about every detector I have used regardless of the Manufacturer. The lowest I have ever had to set it was 60 and that at a site that basically shut down all others. Running with the sensitivity maxed at 99 is the norm.

hi tom!
just curious!..do you find that the g2 has close,or approx. the same depth as say the f-75 l.t.d.?
same or similar separation in trash characteristics?..have you found silver with it?..if so,at what depths are you recovering
the items from?..thanks!

The G2 would not be my first choice for deep coin hunting. Is it capable of matching the depth of the LTD on deep silver? ... Very doubtful, but I have not used the LTD. Perhaps others will chime in.

The Omega has some tricks up its sleeve when it comes to iron handling that helps pull coins out of iron and the G2 seemingly builds on that.... to a degree... where targets are not deep. It will find stuff the Omega misses but from what I have experienced that will be mostly in extreme iron/contaminated areas and again where the coins/high conductive targets are not all that deep. Some of that ability I credit to the way the audio is presented (intelligibility) with the rest due to iron handling and the adjustable sliding tone break.

In open ground such as field hunting the G2 has good depth giving the Omega a run for the money when comparing both in disc mode. Depth on copper pennies has surpised me on occasion but I have yet to hit any deep dimes. As others have pointed out, the GB/G2 target ID is very accurate and stable which can be a biggie for some people. That said, there are some ground conditions where the ID on deep coins can shift as well.

j.t., The above pertains to high conductive coin type targets based on my experience and your results may vary.

Where the G2 really excels over others is on the mid to low conductors in extreme conditions.

Tom

yes!..as a direct result of the frequency!..it should be great on low conductors.
i'm a coin hunter, and i was close to 'grabbin" the omega, but i think i will hold off,and see what mr johnson and gang has
going for a spring intro!..great report!..my thanks!

Not half, but in an urban setting I do work a number of places that cause me to deal with EMI. I have had to calm down my White's MXT's, M6's, XL Pro's and XLT's and a Tesoro Bandido II

I am sure someone will do it in the future, and if so, I hope they do an in-the-field, side-by-side comparison because while I haven't used the F-75 LTD, or even the F-75 that much anyway, I am familiar wit the Teknetics T2 and the Omega and I don't consider the G2 to match them, overall, when it comes to depth-of-detection.

I can say, however, that having used the T2 in some trashy sites, I quickly and easily settled on the G2 and the 5" DD coil as the killer for good separation in trashy conditions. I liked my Omega just fine with he 5" DD coil, then came the G2. My Omega still gets the job done, but the G2 just handles the dense littered sites much better for me.

I haven't recovered any silver coins yet. Ample clad coins and some silver jewelry, but no silver coins. A lot of wheaties from the three home sites they are demoing, but no silver. When I encounter it, the G2 will do what it can to pull them out of the littered areas and let me know. I am not expecting it to get the depth of the more expensive F-75 and T2 and their LTD counter-parts, but I know it will do what it does best and that is handle the more challenging site environments. Quietly, too.

yes!..this is a very encouraging report monte!..i am excited with what
mr.johnson, and crew will be hitting us with this coming spring...i am hoping for
a 'hybrid" detector that advances the technology...if nothing shows,i think i will
consider a "omega"...waiting with "breathless anticipation!".thanks for your input!
always informative,and much appreciated!..

I did have a short run on EMI on the G2 but it was able to hunt where the LTD was put back in the car.
