Gamma 6000 air test

Hello all! This is my first post as I am a long time detectorist but have been out of the game for about 8 years and glad to be back at it. I just purchased a Gamma 6000 and since it's just tooo cold here in southern Ohio to get out right now, I thought I would conduct some airtests to see how it does. These tests are done with the stock 8"coil:

Sensitivity at 80 (factory default when detector is first turned on) musketball and silver quarter both at 8"
Sensitivity at 93 - musketball and quarter at 10"
Sensitivity at 99 (max and machine noisy) - both at 11"

The only comparison machine I have at my disposal is a Tesoro Sidewinder Micromax, which was my old back up machine (my main was a CZ-5). Here is what the Sidewinder did:
Sensitivity at 10 (just before entering the red boost zone), I think this is basically the same as the 80 setting on the Gamma, and is the usual setting I would use for quiet operation as the machine has ni manual ground balance)
- musketball and silver quarter at 6 & 1/2"
Sensitivity maxed out in the red zone ( and machine noisy) - both at 8"

Conclusion is the Gamma gets a good 2-3 inches better than the Sidewinder in air tests and is LIGHTER! I know I am comparing to an older mid level machine but I am impressed. And I cannot wait to see what it does when I get the 11 DD coil on it!

hey there paleo keep us updated on that gamma for sure there's not that many posts really about them it usually the omega thats been getting all of the attention which is ok because i'm liking these 2 quite a bit and terring myself apart if i want tosell my tesoro eldo towards a gamma or a omega

keep thoughs reviews coming on that gamma for sure! between the omega and gamma its almost making me want to sell off my tesoro eldorado we'll have to see

Well I took the Gamma out for a few hours to a old cellar hole homesite. I have never found any coins there, as it has been pounded by several local hunters, but figured what the heck. The ground in most areas was like concrete frozen solid. Found 2 pistol balls ( circa mid 1800's) and a handfull of shotgun shell holes. The target ID jumps around ALOT. Could be due to the frozen soil, but I have read of people who did not like the Delta for that reason. The Gamma does run quiet though. I also found that it is true that you can turn the sensitivity all the way up to 99 and it will chatter alot BUT will go quiet while swinging it. Anybody know if the 11" DD helps with target ID?

can i ask a dumb question you had it ground balanced correctly right? not being sarchastic when i ask that but either say your bal ance was offf or the sensitivty was to high maybe that would be the first things i'd try anyways, just a thought?

I did the ground grab procedure twice, the first time it had a ground reading of 67, the second time I did it, about a hour after, it grabbed it at 69. I think this is about right for the soil in my area. As far as sensitivity, I was running it at 93 and she was very quiet. But when a target was located it would jump around all over the place. I found a memorial penny right at the get go that was about 3 inches down and it was jumping even on it. hmmmmmmmm.

try your sensitivity right around 86 or 87 or try just putting a coin on the ground drop your sensitivity down all the way then go over coin bring your sens up gradually and bring it up to a level where it starts to get unstable then back it down until it stabiles out
