Garrett 550 GTA

Bought a White's Quantum II back in April.
Still new to the hobby, and want to try another unit.
What do you think of the 550 GTA series?
Looking for a machine I like then want to upgrade from there.
I'm into coin shooting and jewelry.
Thanks

Go to the Lost Treasure site and check out my field test on the 550.

The Garrett doesn't have the cam locks for the shafts. Do you find there is any wobble there when sweeping?
The sweep for the White's Quantum can be fast or slow. What's recommended for the Garretts?
The article looks good, but questions I need to ask.
Thanks for the reply....

There is no shaft wobble on my 500 which the 550 is a updated version of it. The 550 will serve you very well for just about anything you want to go after. As for sweep speed you can go fast or slow. Although I'm sure some people will tell you slower is always better. You have a better chance of picking up the deeper coins that way. Hope this helped. You will like the 550 it's a very good detector.

No wobble and you can scan fast or slow but scanning slow works best for any detector unless you want to miss some goodies.

.... that is until my father took it over and uses it quite often. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> It's the first detector he has ever used and he loves it. I swing an Explorer, and he makes as good of finds as I do. We mostly relic hunt and he can pick up bullets up to 10", I have gotten a few 12" ones that he can't hear but I have a 10" coil to his 8" coil. It ID accurately and pinpoint good too, it's easy on the batteries. It is a great 1st detector IMO.
Here's some of his finds from this spring, when he only had a few hours experience on it.

i just started in April of this year and love the hobby, but not ready for the $1000.00 machine yet. But the machine I have isn't what it should be!
So instead of running out like I did on the first one and just buy. I'm learning.
First one was a used one the dealer sold me.
Thanks for the reply
